The way the game was refereed was changed after 2006 and that played a major role in our difficulties 2006-08.

I often hear that the Wrestling started to come into the game in 2006 onwards but was there a rule change or interpretation change that made those big sides king again?

After the run of the attacking teams to finals in 04 and 05, primarily the Tigers and the Cowboys the interpretation around the play the ball changed. Teams were allowed to slow down the ruck a lot more which led to the development of the wrestling techniques and Melbourne's dominance of the game. The argument was that the game was too quick leading to a lot of dummy half running. That argument had a point when you look at how we used a 2 punch dummy half attack of Farah and Dene. We didn't cope well with that chnage.

Ruck speed slowed down again ......which allowed for teams to get more numbers in tackles ......

We lost a few games in last gasp situations ...Manly ....Titans and Knights from memory ......
