Questions are being raised over the Manly Sea Eagles’ role in the Tom Trbojevic pay cut story — and whether the club actually initiated the conversation.

It was reported earlier this week that Trbojevic approached the Sea Eagles and offered to take a pay cut of $750,000 over two years in an act of good faith after missing so much footy due to injuries........

To be fair, 750k is light.
He’d owe them millions

What a load of BS this is... no way a player will limited time is a sport would just give 750k without something back in return.
If Tigers even asked for this we would get penalised for trying to rot the cap.

It’s bullshit , I bet manly came up with the idea , and told Tommy boy , when u retire there will be a brown paper bag in ur name ,

The salary cap should be based on the best official offer a club was willing l to make for a player. The player can stay at their club for less or move to another club for less, but the amount under the cap is valued at the best official offer. The would punch a hole in the Rorters’ business model. Of course their players stay for less - the club makes sure their nests are feathered in other ways.
It would operate as a draft proxy in some ways. A player can’t be forced to go to a club, but the highest bidder value is the reference point. It would ensure over time that clubs can’t hoard representative level rosters in almost every position. Of course you would need to provide some kind of discount mechanism for incumbent club, local juniors, etc.

He should be allowed to take a pay cut provided the contracted amount still counts towards the salary cap. I'm sure Turdo would be good with that. Otherwise he could just leave a brown paper bag on the CEO's desk.

In other news Souffs are asking Latrine for a $5m refund while Catterson has changed his name via deed poll and left the country.

I’ll allow it if we can ask for money back from Packer, Blore, Grub, McQueen, Ballin, Doohey, the Leilua’s and Matulino.
