2005 Similarities

Not sure but I think in 2005 our last two losses of the regular season were to Melbourne and Penrith….

We didn't defend like that in 05.

Actually I remember our 05 defence being average with the exception that our scramble was amazing. In that way I see 2 similarities…
1\. Great attack
2\. Poor first up defence covered by awesome scramble.

There are a few similarities:

Champion fullback
Panthers reject at right centre (Naiqama/Elford)
Much maligned winger (Rankin/Fitzy)
Supporters who still whinge and moan about how we are going even when we are on a winning streak
Exciting, up and coming young halves
Club icon at prop (Woods/Skando)

two thumbs up!
love your post

I remember being on the hill at Leichhardt the day Watts got smashed, the whole hill was after Thurston over an incident in the SOO, they were chanting "kick him in the head" Thurston went missing that day he stayed over the grandstand side all game.

There was one bloke on the hill who used to yell out 'Kick him in the head' at every gamr for years afterwards. I never knew where it started.

This feels like 2009.

We are storming home but no lock to make the finals.

Next year we can make the Top 4.

Close to the finals and we've got a huge game with our number 6 coming up against Jarryd Hayne. It's a thing.

Love the comparisons there mate.

I reckon this team is somewhere around the 04/05 feeling …... No one gave us a chance those years. We missed the finals in 04 (like we have done a few times over the years, by needing to win 2 or 3 out of the last 5 and failing). 05 still to this day no one gives us credit, it was just a fluke!! Mates still rip on about the 05 premiership being the biggest fluke in league history. Just like now, the commentary regarding the tigers is woeful, it's always the other team is playing crap, not the tigers are playing well.

If we follow this year as the 04 side, we may stumble and fall one win short, however next year, all the kids we have are now 24 games more experienced then this year, another off season of training, virtually the same side will be fielded again next year, they know each others game inside and out....I think any less then a top 4 finish will be a failure. Don't forget, 2017 is the promised year that we have been hearing about for 4 years.

1\. Champion fullback - Hodgo/Teddy
2\. Fill in backliner and much maligned winger - Fitzy/Rankin
5\. Finishing winger - Patty/Nofo
3\. Panthers reject - Elford/Big Kev
4\. Solid defender with attacking flair - Fatz/Simona
6\. Exciting young gun - Benji/Moses
7\. Steady foil for the 5/8 - Prince/Wee Man (should run it more like Prince did)
11/13\. Tackle machine - Benny G/Taylor
12\. Club Legend - Buckets/Rowdy
8\. Club icon - Skando/Woods
9\. Farah/Farah/Halatau

Welcome! That is a damn cool first post.
Notice you didn't equate Gibbs/Sue…don't blame you

Thanks mate,

Our other starting prop was laffranchi I didn't see a laffranchi/sue option as similar players. Nor Gibbs/Ava

The other benchys however -

14\. Journey man front rower - Grant (Penrith & souths) /Toddy (roosters & Canberra)

15\. Solid defender, offers nothing in attack - Lovett/Rhino

16\. Small forward, fit, tackling machine - Edwards/Fulton
