Good to hear young Watts the long jumper tell the media to 'wake up to themselves' I agree with him. Nothing to be ashamed about winning a silver medal. That means right at that point in time, there was only 1 person in the whole world who was better than you. Something 99.9999% of the population will never be able to say…..yet they hit the social mediums and criticise....wankers....
Can't criticise the athletes, but the process that sees Steph Rice turn up carrying a serious shoulder condition and Leisel Jones clearly overweight, requires investigation and a review of the way in which Swimming Australia are nurturing, managing and developing these athletes. The sport attracts more funding than any other, but has frankly been on the slippery slide since the Sydney Olympics.
I don't believe Australians will tolerate the fall from grace that's occurred in London and I trust that a change of Gov't will again see us within the top five or six nations at future Olympics. Swimming needs to take a back seat in terms of funding and support, with a greater focus on rowing/kayaking, sailing and the cycling programs
