2013 New Faces Thread

Let's use this thread to discuss the guys that may feature in the WT for 2013 for the first time.

There are obviously those with NRL experience such as Curtis Sironen, James Tedesco, Tim Simona, Jacob Miller, Braith Anasta, Eddy Pettybourne and Bodene Thompson but there are surely going to be some debutants in 2013.

NSW Cup:

With a new coach coming to the club he may like what he sees in players that Sheens has not. I could definitely see a guy like **Josh Davis** finally getting a call up. The BRET side has a very handy backrow but it seems that is where most of our recruitment has come from for 2013, and the NYC also have some very handy backrowers so despite the likes of **Jarrod Farlow** and **Rhys Curran** showing plenty, they may not get a go. With Ayshford leaving I expect to see plenty of **Tim Simona**, although he has obviously already played first grade. If we get a coach who likes to put big men on the field just for being big then we could see a guy like **Taqele Naiyaravaro** used as a Tony Williams like impact forward. **Ava Seumanufagai** is a very good prop that should be ahead of any of the NYC props, including Matt Groat at this stage as well. **John Grant** despite many of the naysayers is close to first grade. He is very fast, very big and showed that he was getting into the swing of Rugby League before his season was disrupted and ultimately derailed by injury. At first he didn't realise that wingers do hit ups but soon developed this all important part of his game and for a while was showing excellent signs. He should be thereabouts. **Jy Hitchcox** was cruelly sidelined last week and will most likely miss the Grand Final now but he is a talent. He is ultra competitive and is one of those players that just finds the ball. Super quick and super strong and would be a smokey depending on what our coach ends up looking for.

NYC:

The most obvious one here is **David Nofoaluma**. A dynamic, pocket rocket style back that was a junior star and has translated that into the 20's there is no reason why he won't continue his rise. He was one of the best junior fullbacks in Australia until he came up and bumped into James Tedesco when he was shunted into the centres and now plays primarily on the wing, so I could see him as a straight swap for Beau Ryan, considering he covers the same positions and probably better than Ryan. **Jacob Miller** has seen quite a bit of first grade, but all the good judges rate him higher than Sheens seemed to and I am pretty confident that a new coach would be interested in playing our best halfback at halfback, especially since he was an NYC captain that took his side to the GF. **Brendan Santi** could be the answer to Heighington leaving. He is about the same size but seems to have a bigger engine. He has more impact as an attacker but burnt out slightly towards the end of the season that saw him relegated to the bench late in the season. He is very much in the mould of Shaun Fensom. **Mosese Fotuiaka** is a dynamic prop/second rower with fantastic leg speed and leg drive. He isn't the hugest forward but he is very hard to bring down. He scores plenty of tries. Reminds me of Sam Burgess somewhat. **Soni Passi** is a mack truck on legs. He is a huge boy and runs and hits VERY HARD. He isn't the tallest but he must spend 12 hours a day in the gym because he has an absolutely massive trunk. He would make a fantastic enforcer. He is rough around the edges and can give away a penalty and is a firebrand but the Tigers could definitely do with someone like that. **Inno Inosessio** is someone who I rarely see mentioned but should be in the picture. He is a small lock/backrower with great leg speed, excellent defensive technique and good ball playing ability. He reminds me a lot of Greg Bird. **Andrew Vela** has been touted as a guy that may have played first grade in 2012 but was injured. I don't know much about him but if someone else wants to say something, I'd love to hear it. I forgot to mention **Kyle Lovett**. He reminds of Luke O'Donnell except he tackles more. Great talent.

So tell me about others you might feel are in with a shot and elaborate on my uneducated opinion about these ones as well.

Would love to see soni passi turn into a first grader next year . Has plenty of mongrel in him which we have lacked. Would be a great powerful bench with BMM, and pettybourne

What do we think are the chances of us seeing some SG Ball talent in first grade next year? It's not unheard of.

Imagine if we win NSW Cup and 20's on top of SG Ball. That would indicate great things for the future.

Looking forward to seeing all the names mentioned play in 2012 and onwards.
Good thread.

Agree George. He really put some of those Roosters boppers off their game on the weekend. The kind of beserker every team needs off the bench.

I think the most effective way to build a Club and a first grade (NRL) team is to develop the young local talent up through the grades. While it may be necessary to "import" some talent to fill particular positional holes in the roster, it would be hoped this is a minor part of the development.
It appeared that Tim Sheens resisted promoting younger players to cover injured NRL players. Maybe the new coach can accelerate the progress of younger players, while not over-exposing them to possible injury.
Wests Tigers does appear to have a miriad of promising, young players, which should help the future results.

MacDougall, I'm very impressed by your opinions and well structured posts.

You should write match reports for the Tigers U20's and NSW cup sides and post them for us that don't get to games.

I don't think it's fair to say that Sheens resisted. I think at times he may have persisted with certain players too long but he did bring up quite a smattering of juniors and turn them into first graders. There were occasions in which he didn't bring up or persevere with some juniors he may well should have.

Haha thanks but most of what I speak of is based on a few games and second hand information. Besides, Cuzzo actually does do match reports of all grades.

I think we'll be seeing plenty of Tedesco, Nofoaluma and Koroibete in FG next year. Fotuaika looks promising and I'll be interested to see how Matt Groat rebounds after a shocking 2012, along with young Buchanan from the Dragons.

Brendan Santi is a Star, I hope his body can stand the workload of FG

Jacko you must be wacko to believe that. At best he is good. I've watched him all year & he has a very long way to go.

Makes you wonder how Junior Moors would have been treated under a new coach

Made that same comment to a mate today. Good luck to junior anyway, at least he can fulfill his potential now and prove a lot of doubters out there wrong

I agree with the positive comments on Inno Inosessio. I spotted him in a trial game at the start of the year and have watched him closely ever since. He is one nuggety, tough, resilient customer. A terrific prospect.

All up, a very useful post. I got to see only a few State Cup games so I appreciate your summary of the guys there. I will be watching them in the GF later today. Go BRET!

Seumanufagai was excellent in the NSW cup GF and Fotuaika, Santi and Sue are going awesome in the NYC.

Agree, they were all good. I also see a bit of potential in Asiseli Fine.

Monroe is the smoky for me. How old is he? Seems like he will end up a strong boy and i think he will develop into a strong centre.

Mulcahy looks good. Has a nice touch about him with speed to burn.

Miller was good

Loved the look of Saunders the hooker, he looked to have a lot of time and his passing game was good.Lovett looks good as well and the two props were awesome.
