2015 As Good As Over Really

Season far from over…

You know how it rolls here Geo, these threads always surface after a coupleof losses. I spose most of them are justified but I refuse to get caught up in the emotional backlash after a loss.

If it makes people feel better having a bit of a :blah after a dissapointing loss, why not. I'ts a Footy forum after all.

By Round 7 in 2011 we were 3-4\. In 2010, it was 4-3\. We made the Preliminary Final in 2010 and choked in Week 2 of the Finals in 2011.

Early form means nothing. As long as your picking up points, you're doing ok. We've lost 4 games but been in the game well onto the 2nd half. No blowouts yet. Sunday was by far our worst loss but we got chased down. It's very hard to feel like you've won a game and then have it slowly slip away, it's a psychological thing and I think the age of the team is what got to them. A more mature team would get out of that psychology, but we've seen this happen twice already.

Just chill out, we're just past the 1/4 mark. Let's see how we look by Round 13, or Round 18, and then we can have a better look. The only team who's season is over is Manly.

We currently sit on 6 points. We have 2 byes which are 2 guaranteed points each.

So that is 10 points.

Traditionally you need 28 points to make the top 8.
That means we need another 18 points or 9 wins out of 17 games.

We still play:

Bulldogs (ANZ)
Roosters (Allianz)
Knights (HS)
Cowboys (CS) during origin
Titans (LO)
Souths (ANZ) during origin
Manly (BO)
Penrith (LO)
Parramatta (ANZ) during origin
Brisbane (Suncorp)
Roosters (ANZ)
Melbourne (LO)
Canberra (GIO)
Knights (CS)
Sharks (Remondis)
Warriors (CS)
Dragons (ANZ)

Games we can and should win:

Penrith, Parramatta, Canberra, Knights, Sharks, Warriors, Dragons, Titans

Games I give us a chance in:

Bulldogs, Knights, Souths, Manly, Melbourne, Cowboys

That is more then enough points to make the top 8\. I'm not saying that is what is going to happen. But if we can continue to build and start to gel for the full 80 minutes we can definitely make the top 8.

It ain't over until the fat lady sings and we don't vs the dragons and George Rose again until round 26

Tony33,well said, however "the fat lady was singing loud and clear on Sunday"…

Just hope they have learnt a very, very, valuable lesson and now learn how to lock a game down when you have a huge lead......

Its far from over. That 25 minutes showed how good we can be. The rest of the game showed how much improvement is required.

Well said. Clocked off after 25 minutes.

Positives: we beat Dragons when they were going like busteds and Titans when they were favourites for the spoon not to mention missing 2 or 3 of their best players. We had huge leads against Dogs and Raiders. Negatives: We have ZERO long kicking game, that won't change in a hurry, if at all. We gave up huge leads in 2 games…if we didn't learn a lesson from the first game in that respect we are in big trouble, smart sides learn from their mistakes not keep repeating them. Lawrence is a waste of time unfortunately: great bloke, offers nothing. Sirro jnr can't make a linebreak to saVe himself ATM from memory. Our forwards are probably the softest in the NRL-have been for years, even when we had success in 2010 and 2011 to an extent.
Am expecting an arse-whipping from a very inconsistent Dogs team this week, we will make Reynolds/Hodkinson look like Kenny/Sterling I am sure. Would love to look on the bright side but reality keeps getting in the way. We need to buy good players with cash we don't have. It's a worry.

We clocked off after 25 mins and a few people are already reaching for the razor blades.

FFS… I personally think we're ahead of expectations.

How many good teams clock off after 25 mins? Sheesh, people who are happy with us going gangbusters for quarter of a game but then flogged for the rest are easily pleased….and quite happily disappointed by the sounds of it. If we are leading any game after 25 from now on I am gonna bust out the champers and just ignore the final score. Unbelievable to think that some fans are happy with the Dogs and Raiders games. Easily pleased. I sort of expect a team, no matter how inexperienced, to have the werewithall and intelligence to close out a game with a huge lead with deep kicking and committed defence. But hey...we were in front after 25 mins, yaaaaay

Yes we are ahead of expectations CB , but I can't think of a game this season where we have put more than 25 minutes together in an entire 80

That's my big concern

You're a new inexperienced player, you score a try, you have a little mental celebration and go back to the game. While still celebrating the first try, you score another and start to celebrate again then suddenly score another try. Hey this is easy, you say to yourself, still celebrating the first, second, and now third tries. Next thing you know your opponent, not celebrating at all, blows out your candles. Suddenly it's dark and you can't even find your cake, party's over.
We have a bunch of inexperienced players. Unfortunately they couldn't shift back into go mode from party mode quick enough. Learning to stay focused comes with experience and the experienced players really need to take the reins in this regard and remind the youngsters the next time we find ourselves with a lead.
I'm with CB, we have plenty of skill, what we lack is experience and the attitude that when the grind starts it's time to get into the grind. That experience is being gained the hard way on a weekly basis.
I can't imagine that any WT supporter would be happy with the dogs or raiders games. I also can't imagine that any WT player would be happy with the dogs or raiders games. That's what I'm counting on. Go Wests Tigers.

If the team cut out the errors, stick to the fundamentals, defend solidly for the whole 80 and show some improvement over the last display, then I can cop it if we lose…

If it turns out to be a farce like last week,I'm afraid I will be very disappointed and this lot will never learn!!!!

Just remember 2005 when we had a very young side. We didn't really click until the last quarter of the season. It is up to the players, coach, a little bit of fortune and of course the fans who must show faith.

It's been happening for years, and wil never be a genuine top class team until it stops
No one wants to face the fact that for a lot of the time we can be a soft team
Hopefully JT will change this,

Im having a little dabble on a win this week, dogs disrupted with players missing , Our blokes hurting ( or bloody well should be after the last few weeks) all the motivation should be there. Won't change much in the long run , but a win would at least help.

I saw the thread and thought "well that's it then, no footy till next year, internet said so" but then I looked into it and we're playing the Dogs on Friday night.

Some further research revealed a match at Allianz against the Roosters on the 8th of May, and then 15 more games after that. Turns out there's almost a season of footy left to play. I was misled, and on the internet of all places.

Silly internet. I'll see the rest of you up on level 4 on Friday night.

Yep, we're switching to an American baseball 7 game playoff system.
