2020 Forward Pack

Think I’m on my own here, but I actually think we played some of our best footy late last year with Benji at hooker.

I’d be tempted to try him there with Reynolds at 5/8. At least for periods. Say what you think of Reynolds, but I think he brings some unpredictability which we sorely need in the starting side. And he is certainly no hooker.

Benji would be my pick ahead of all the other 5/8 or second row options we currently have before Simpkins or Liddle are available.

Not on your own. I agree. Benji was awesome. We had more go forward in those games than we did all year. Problem is he needs to share it and who knows whether Reynolds will be available.

Also, I still remember reading on here that Maguire was hoping to use Mbye at 9 but with all the crap flying around by ‘in the know’ posters, who knows what to believe.

I'm with you Bernie. I think Reynolds showed some real spark when he had the opportunity, let's hope he's healthy. looks like a very, very good pack, though.

I feel Twal starting at lock will create a lot more balance in the pack and shore up the middle more then a Huth. With Musgrove over the line this is definitely an option now, with Mikaele to come into his own this year. ETs defense is brilliant but we need a lock who can do more with the ball.

Aloiai has to be off the bench which is by far his most effective role. Chee-Kam to get the SR bench spot as i believe Lawrence has been told he will be a mentor to the forwards and see limited FG.

8. Musgrove
9. TBC
10. Packer
11. Leilua
12. Garner
13. Twal
14. Mikaele
15. Chee-Kam
16. Aloiai
17. Clarke/Lawrence/ET to replace Twal after 30min and tackle, allowing Twal to join the prop rotation.

I'd start Chee Kam at lock. Behind a bigger, more aggressive pack with offload potential I think he has the speed and agility to take advantage. He;s also a very good defender.

If you took Twal out of that combo then you seriously expose the back three ..... a tough running pack would drive a bus through our forwards.

I'd definitely be starting Twal but I don't think he's a lock. My preference would be Musgrove/Packer, Mikaele/Twal as front row rotation, Leilua/Aloai/Garner ( Clark/Eisenhuth) 2nd row and Chee Kam lock. Aloai doesn't let much get through.

It will be interesting to see how Madge works the lock position. Et, Twal, Eisenhuth can all play long minutes.
The starting 2nd Rower don't have a lot of experience but our backs ups do.

Why does this forum think that Packer will be in the mix for the remainder of the term of his contract?

I think he will later in the year last I heard he has only just started running again I think it will take a while for him to get back to his best

Im more concerned with attitude, He looked mentally checked out for mine

Can’t remember the context but he was quoted as saying he felt 2019 was a huge disappointment and he was looking forward to a great 2020. Looking at recent photos his level of fitness would complement that quote. Looks quite trimmed down

Form flutuates from season to season. Really only the top level players can maintain long-term. In regards to Packer think everyone is giving him the benefit of the doubt as he has shown form previously that is better than anything others have played.
