OFFICIAL 2023 Dally Ms

Unlucky for SJ. He deserved it. So did Ponga - since returning from injury he must have been man of the match in just about every game he played.

I always thought Ben Hunt and DCE were a smokey and that SJ wasn't a clear cut winner as everyone thought. AFB and Harris I thought would've taken too many points from him.

Ponga came out of nowhere. Good on him though.

I always feared this when they switched to this new system though. 3 points are worth 6, 2 points are worth 4 etc.. A big reward for being the best on ground but not that big a reward for 2nd best.

I wonder if SJ would've won if it was the old system?

These awards are always bit dodgy. Reece Walsh was ineligible due to the crime of having a potty mouth, but he was the standout player for the season. I agree with tig_prmz that SJ wasn't the certainty that the media made out.

Ponga won the award but he's no longer the most athletic and most fun player to watch. I usually death-ride the Broncos, but this year they are the best team to watch, largely due to Walsh.

Bula deserved rookie of the year.

It's 100% easier to perform well when you are in a dominant team. Bula performed in a team that was usually getting smashed so he was usually under intense pressure, and he held up incredibly well for a rookie. Meanwhile Turuva just had to ride the wave of his superstar team in a lower responsibility position.

You could make a similar case for Api. How many hookers could have almost single-handedly dragged his team over the line, as Api did against the Dolphins? Week after week, he was the standout in a beaten side and his job was much, much harder than Harry's.

100% right Bula was amazing in a weak side .Ridiculous picking Turuva whos had a much easier task on the end of Penrith's backline .He also played a few NRL games last year whereas Jahream a genuine rookie .For me the main competitor for Bula should have been Warbrick
