THE FOURTH smallest country on the planet is guaranteed to stand on the Commonwealth Games podium for the first ever.

Despite a paltry population of under 11,000 people, tiny Tuvalu has managed to punch above its weight, bagging a monumental boxing medal in Glasgow.

In an even more remarkable turn, Tuvalu do not need to land a single blow to secure their landmark medal.

Following organisational difficulties, just five boxers were listed to compete in the women’s 75kg middleweight class.

Tuvaluan Tarona Taafaki’s side of the draw has a mere two combatants, sealing her place in the semi finals without stepping into the ring.

The 20-year-old will have to face heavy-hitting former World Champion Lovlina Borgohain on Friday.

But even if the Olympic Bronze medallist gives Taafaki a bloody nose, the Tuvaluan flag will be proudly hoisted over the podium regardless.
