2026 Open Training

First bit of news is a huge let down for me. Luke on the wing instead of Skelton and Heamasi. Bunty and Hunt ahead of Sione.

If Benji cant see what ceiling Sione has then we have no hope
Can’t see them offering a 400k contract to sit him in reserves. I’d say it’s got more to do with match fitness

Terrell looks to have put on some size maybe more impact than minutes is what Benji is looking for. Royce looks very fit compared to last year. We have a good rotation for props. Agree we looked clunky but that is preseason. Spoke to Fonua Pole and they are looking forward to two weeks time to the first trial. Asked if Bula was staying and he said he hopes so, asked if he could get his brother to come up from Melbourne and he said he tried before and he is the last son at home so his mother would not want that to happen.
Kai Pearce Paul looks like a good fit for the side. We have some options at least.

Jack Bird no where to be seen.

Bring on the trials

Was there. Not gunna sugar coat it our attack was terrible. The scrimmage was the NRL side attacking in the 20 from a set start for about 15 sets. They scored twice. Once Taylan beat Herbert one on one. The second was on the last where we went harlan globe trotters and a loose ball got a lucky bounce to Bula who had a 2 man over lap and put Taylan over again

The game went for 40 mins with a water break after 20. Adam Gee was the ref so it was serious. NRL side had about 75% possession and field position and scored 3 tries. First one Doueihi picked up a loose ball and ran 30m untouched to score. Second one Pole scored off a basic hit up 10m out. last one was a nice left shift with Masi at centre putting Lauilili over.

The only time we looked remotely dangerous was when taylan got the ball. Unless our NSW Cup side is legit amazing then it was poor. Im not saying season over or anything ridiculous, understand it was a practice match and players were chopping and changing, but I saw nothing to suggest the team has evolved from last year.

"Not gunna sugar coat it our attack was terrible" Thanks Rowdy. You nailed it.
What stood out to me was;
a) Api continually fed the ball to the left side. Right hand side must have been on light duties?
b) KPP would have thought O'Brien was the coach and was back at Newcastle?
c) The only chip kick behind the defence line in the red zone was by the Cup side.
d) The NRL attack in the red zone was the old "bash and barge" which failed as usual. Against the Cup side. {Should have a good cup side this year}
e) Absolutely no finesse in the red zone. It was "Ground Hog Day" from last year's efforts. Hopeless!
f) Disappointing not rehearsing Chip kicks, easy points as opposed the rare points from bash/barge efforts.
g) Just hope it was an ordinary day at the office.
h) C'mon Benji, you were just holding them back in case there were spies about.

Thought the same mate, KPP catching a cold on the right. Think I saw him touch it once

Api playing to forwards way too often, then go left and Luai steps back infield most of the time

All this talk about KPP being an aerial threat, didnt kick it to him once

Bula exclusively on the right side

As I said, looked like a carbon copy of last year, saw absolutely nothing new or to say we've improved

Do they make ball playing 13 anymore?

Other teams do, we dont. Laui made a career off having a 13 that condenses the opposition middle. But with us, hes expected to make big plays with hardly any work done on the inside. Makes no sense at all to me.
