The sessions have been intense and the humidity sweltering at times but there has been plenty of enthusiasm amongst Wests Tigers players to pre-season training.
>
The NRL squad of 32 contracted players have been working very hard on their fitness levels for the past week and a half under new Wests Tigers Strength and Conditioning Coach John Skandalis.
>
Players have undertaken weight, speed and pilate sessions as well as a torturous Strongman Challenge. A series of skills sessions have also been held under Wests Tigers Assistant Coach Steve Georgallis and Elite Junior Player and Coaching Manager Grant Jones in the absence of Wests Tigers and Australian Head Coach Tim Sheens.
>
The squad will train until December 21 before enjoying a break over Christmas.
>
Wests Tigers’ Four Nations representative players in Benji Marshall, Chris Lawrence, Keith Galloway, Gareth Ellis, Chris Heighington, Robbie Farah and Adam Blair will return to training in the first week of January.

32 players contracted, no Begovich.

Bugger all prop/second rowers. Interesting, no Alan Shirnack. I thought it was only his brother who left for Mackay

Wouldn't be surprised if Begovichs business (construction company) curtails his footy career.

I imagine he wouldn't be able to devote a fulltime effort to footy and that therefore, would rule him out of being a part of the top squad.

A pity as I rated him better than Groat. !

Al Schirnack will be playing for BRET.

on begovich not being in the squad i heard it was because the tigers gave him the ultimatum to come on full time and give away his business or keep working and train part time and begovich decided to go for part time as his business was thriving

In that case then I say good on him. It's great that the young bloke has a business doing well at such a young age. Rugby League won't be around forever for him so if he can make a success of his business now, then it puts him in good stead for the future, and he might be able to build his business to a point where he can get someone to help manage things if he gets a crack at FG and needs to commit to league fulltime.

A lot more younger players should be taking his lead and not putting all of their eggs in one basket

What is the average career for an NRL player
I thought they said about 40 odd games is the average for the players
That certainly won't be setting anyone up for life

I was told he was given the "choice" & went with his Dad's business. Wise for a young chap. Not enough future in NRL at the moment.
