$50 Million reason Wests Tigers are prepared to quit Campbelltown.

I'm just going to say this once.

It's a win for the club. $50m on a stadium, great.

It's a massive loss for Western Sydney.
Were dying in peak hour, our roads are utter nightmares in peak time.
Our schools still have Boiling hot demountables. No study, no Future when your sweating it out.
A local footy field, Basketball court without the ring smashed in or park gym would be money way better spent.

Yet again, Western sydney is the last Bloody place to get upgraded!

Great work Barry O'farrell, Richo and all the WT. I mean it's a win for the club...
I won't say it's money well spent.
they come from 2 separate budgets. investment in things like football stadia generates income and stirs the economy, because let's face it how many people would normally get out to places like Campbelltown.
1 has zero to do with the other .
schools is out of a completely different budget again. really blame the wealthy private schools who dominate the grants from the goverment and funding.
no disrespect , but its a pretty ignorant comment .
also thats your rates as well. also the school has to simply get better at navigating the system and funding .

The fans and members will always be there.
As.Jack Gibson said if you're listening to the fans you'll soon be sitting with them
What are we trying to achieve by playing more games at Campbelltown? Perhaps that is where the discussion should start.

Simply stating the old lines of Campbelltown is our future and Campbelltown is a growth area doesn't cover the question. Crowds have not grown there in 20 years.

Must admit not a big fan of Cambo.
If you can’t get locals there, which hasn’t worked for 20 years, it’s clear people don’t want to travel.
Plus… our win percentage there is rubbish which is another nail in the coffin.

Well the fans don't go to Campbelltown in the same volume as Leichhardt...what is the objective though?...why does 8 games at Campbo make sense above a 6/6 split?

Are we going to push this population growth area trope? The region has been growing for 20 years and there is no year on year crowd growth to speak of.

I reckon you'd get more tribalism and turnout at Lidcombe and I'd fully support that move.

Lidcombe is nowhere near NRL standard though, it would need a major overhaul if you wanted to do that. As for Campbelltown while I do agree a 6/6 split would be the best outcome, I think they want to give Campbelltown a chance to turn things around record wise. It’s no secret it’s not as successful as Leichhardt has been with wins and crowd attendance and atmosphere. But whatever games Campbelltown host from now until the renovations start the club needs to win majority of them, otherwise fans won’t travel to a ground they know their team can’t win at.

For any chance to be successful whatever games Campbelltown host from now until the renovations start, they have to win majority of them. Otherwise it ain’t changing even with some upgrades to the ground.

Is this how you feel or the reality? Penrith got squillions for their stadium upgrade well before we got this round of funding.

New airport?
Look, I hate how Penrith get the Royal treatment and I hate even more when backwaters like Shark park and Brookie get treated to these upgrades. I also hate that were basically the last club to get this.

It's a bloody Stadium. A rigid plastic seat should be the best option available. I miss hills and a mum or dad hanging back with a picnic basket while the kids hang near the metal gate at the front.

I hate how the upgrade is 50 Million. Seriously I hate that. It's planning + concrete and some bricks..
Upgrades should be in the 1-2 million dollar range not 50 million.

Glad we, the Wests Tigers are getting our share and glad were getting our stadiums upgraded.
I know it's an unpopular opinion, particularly here on a footy site, yet I believe:
This truckload of money on stadiums could be far better spent.

100%

I went near Lidcombe and the parking alone is crapola.
It's an old school footy ground. No where near NRL standard.

That said:
it's not far at all from Lidcombe station.
Has good ammenties around.
Easier for the C-town people to get too.
Easy for the Balmain people to get too!

Yea, Lidcombe would have been a good solution. Except we have poured money into everywhere else.

Lidcombe was mentioned in the context of money for upgrades. It isn't going to happen though, but I don't get this idea that "Campbelltown is our future". Nothing has changed in 25 years. Results wise and crowds wise.

When do these plans for both grounds go out to tender?
If there is cost over runs is there a contingency or does construction stop?
I just know costs of materials have shot up over the last 2 years. That pot of money might look a lot smaller when construction starts in 2028

And we have been shit for 25 years …so things have to change… they have to make it work now …I don’t think they have tried too hard previously both on and off the field

Interesting - Minns on radio confirming that the additional money for Cambo is not coming from the NSW Gov and it is money being redirected from the council that was previously allocated for something else. This will need to get approval. Will also test how much the residents support the development especially if the money is being taken away from other services. Hopefully the council have done their homework.

This is in essence a smart move by Richo and the club. The commitment to our 2 geographical areas is a win for sponsors, the players and the fans. This should help entrench our identity and assist in refuting our perceived nomadic existence. Thus, this makes us a more palatable and attractive option to the market place.

Of concern is the home ground split giving preference to the South West geographic. If we are to play the majority of our home grounds at Cambo in 2027 due to LO's upgrade then it is imperative that we start winning most of our Cambo games NEXT year. If we go into 2027 with the same win ratio at Cambo after another dismal 2026 at Cambo then we could be staring at a new stadium that resembles a ghost town. Even Richo would find this a hard sell to any potential corporates. Clearly the players need to put in at Cambo next year.
