6 & 7 : If You Were Coach

If a player is not currently with us they are not to be considered for this poll.
Being that it is a realistic poll Marshall has been included in every combo.
If choosing "other" please say who you would pick from our current crop.

I predict many opinions which confirms:
(a) the fact that there are no solid combos is a joke and
(b) we don't have a proper 7 ready to roll so we fans are never going to be unanimous on a halves combo
© because of (b); no matter who coaches next year we are going to be divided as to how he picks his halves and are going to slam him for it
(d) because of (b) and (c) the coach should just decide on a combo and stick to it!
(d) Thurston would make my life better.

I picked BA @ 7 & BM @ 6 for a few reasons
1\. Think we need a good football brain who is mature enough to sit between BM & RF and control the way we play for at least 60 per cent of the time..by control I mean field position and setting us up when we are in the opposition 20
2\. BM is a huge liability in defense and when we had him and Lui together it was a double liability. You can be sure that BA is capable of playing either side of the ruck and we wil not have to try & find a place to hide him
3\. This gives us 3 ball playing options and will put a lot of doubt in the oppositions mind..If you add the likes of Marika & Tedesco sniffing around the middle of the ruck for an opportunity it could be a potent weapon
4\. Based on what I have seen from Miller over the past month I think he has already been moved on so not much use in factoring him into the equation
5\. Based on what I have seen from Chisholm he has the potential but for whatever reason he is not in favors like most of the Bret Team. Good footwork & hands just not sure about his D. Anyway, After a very good game on Saturday got dropped to bench for humble/waters

We just need someone in there who will share the workload equally with Benji. It doesn't matter who it is, along as they take some of the pressure off him. He was our only go to guy this year, and because of that, teams shut him down. I noticed on Saturday night the amount of off the ball work he had to do to get himself to each side of the ruck in order to be at first or second receiver each play because of the lack of another playmaker. It was absolutely staggering and is unfair to him. Robert Lui was settling into that role nicely, and was becoming just as dangerous and as much a controlling player as Benji is. Whilst I love Fulton, he was never going to play a true 5/8's role. He was simply there as an extra runner as Sheens couldn't bare the thought of having to bench any of his "boys". Lawrence has never showed one ounce of a playmaker's ability, and again, was simply there to catch and pass. Humble, Miller and Moltzen all have what is needed, but were never given the time to use it. Sironen was working towards it but got injured at the wrong time.

Did you watch him play this yr? the poor kid will never be the same again after that injury

I feel Miller and Marshall are my preferred Halves as they complement each other the best. My only concern is Jacob's ego getting in the way of him doing the hard work which would be required to hold down a 7 jumper in the NRL…

I am unsure about Braith at 7, plenty of reasons for it but plenty against it

For:
-Easily the smartest playmaker in the team
-Good kicking game
-Keeps Benji out of halfback
-He's a competitor who will take any challenge head on

Against:
-His best asset is his running game
-Can he organise the team
-In over 10 years in the NRL I can't recall him ever playing there, probably a good reason for that

I would play Braith at lock, Moltzen at 7 and Benji at 6 with Beau at the back while Teddy gets his confidence and timing back in NSW Cup.

I know it won't happen but Marshall at 6 and Chisholm at 7

Seeing that Sheens didn't try it you know its going to be dynamite

6\. Benji Marshall
7\. The best traditional halfback in the club whoever that is (Jacob Miller for mine) Not a manufactured one

hence why i put lawrence on the wing. he can finish; and outside a quality centre in marshall, well he'd receive plenty of opportunities, not the 1 or 2 he gets a game at present.

as for ryan lethal, well, thats why i had nofu also next to him. the rest of the backline IS lethal. you can't have all 5 players as absolute guns. ryan is a much better choice than ayshford and would contribute to the remaining lethal backline.

that backline is mouth watering. mtd for coach 2013.

miller and benji my pick.

i was warming to the idea of anasta at 7 but he's never played there which worries me. in the end sheens is just manufacturing another halfback as he has before. the halfback maker will get a real workout over the summer months.
