We also scrambled very well in 2005\. I think we averaged about 12 points per game against us in the last half of the season.

From round 13 until round 26 defensively we let in about 18 points a game

226 points in 12 games

Bugger. Maybe it was over a smaller period, our defense through to the GF was very underrated by the majority. We had players making the 3rd and 4th efforts in cover, never giving up.

The Brisbane ,Melbourne and Penrith touch ups didn't help

Still maintain **we threw the Penrith match to avoid the Storm first week of the semis**

Totally agree. Storm would have beat us.

A Premiership is a big thing, both Balmain and Western Suburbs supporters know that only too well. Any number of finals appearances don't add up to one Premiership… And the fact that I was there too.

Agree totally that the dominant / surrender thing worked against us.
And...2006 was all about injuries.
2007 no Prince, no half back.
2008/2009 9th place, desperately close in final game vs Knights, we should have won. Still no half back.
2010 Top 4, badly robbed vs Roosters in round 1 of the play-offs. Very unlucky and robbed vs Dragons in Prelim Final, in one of the best and closest games of the last decade.
2011 Top 4 in spite of horrible injuries to Gareth, Chris Lawrence and Simon Dwyer. Knocked out on ridiculous video ref double movement try to Krisnan Inu (see 2012 hail mary field goal Rnd 24 vs the Dogs.)
2012 Endless injury toll, never fielded our best side, constant rearrangements in the backs, never played really well either. Winning that game rnd 24 to the Dogs would have made a world of difference, but killed off in the end by broken hand to Robbie Farah. No captain, no confidence. Still no half back.
More than anything, our new coach needs to bring us some luck. Just plain luck.We used it all in 2005?

I wont go through all that except to say..as we all know..no serious attempt to recruit a half decent Half back after Prince and the same goes for Full back after Hodgo.

That final game against the Knights you refer to…that was a disgrace..a bit like the end of this year. And that day The Coach did not use all players on the bench. Some things just dont change.
