8-2 Penalty Count?

I heard the final penalty count was 8-2 in favour of Souths, is this true?

It's amazing how obvious it is how each year the NRL picks a team to carry home with refereeing favouritism. Even we were benefited during 2011, but it still makes a mockery of the competition imo.

8-3 I believe - we got one in the final minute when the game was all but over :unamused:

Perenara was a joke with the whistle tonight couldn't wait to ping us. They expected Souths to win and made it happen. Hope we get our fair share of expected to win penalties sometime in the future but at the moment we are expected to lose and the refs are making sure it happens.

The NRL needs to move towards a black and white definition of a tackle to make the ruck less subjective.

Momentum reduces down to walking pace then 1, 2, 3, tackle, something along those lines.

Then the referee will have no excuse for blowing subjective penalties in the ruck.

Happened to Manly and again to us. Souths go behind and just get piggy back penalties till they are back into it. If they only made 1 infringement outside the first and last 5 minutes of the game I'll give it away, especially if we gave away 8 in that time.

Many of souths tries came off the back of crap penalties. The difference tonight was we got pinned, while souths didn't, for identical situations. And I agree with the other poster, Perenara is not neutral with the whistle. In the end we lost and souths fans will tell us we weren't good enough, don't blame the Ref, but should they be lucky enough to make the GF and lose through bad a call, I can't wait to tell them the same.

Referees should be blamed, it is their job to be impartial adjudicators, if they fail to be so then they should be removed from their position. But more of the blame resides within the NRL who set the referee bosses and referees and who never bother to streamline the rules and interpretations but allow subjective grey areas to remain.

Wouldn't surprise me if games were fixed for ratings purposes by the NRL/broadcaster. Imagine the Easts vs Souths game ratings next week for minor premiership!

It was a terrible performance from the referee's tonight. Souths were allowed to lay in the ruck a lot longer than we were and they were able to milk penalties (burgess & inglis both milked one each) where as when the same thing happened for us we got nothing.

That got the bunnies back into the game without a doubt. I'm not going to argue who the better team was etc but the lack of consistent, impartial adjudication impacted on the quality of the contest.

I will cop bad decisions if they are consistent but tonight it was either an inconsistent interpretation of the ruck or pure biase.

The game tonight proved to me that the league wants a Souths v Easts GF. It wasn't just the penalties either, if that try that was declared no try by Perenara was called a try we'd be looking at a totally different result. BTW, the penalty count was 9 - 3.

Perenara is he even really a referee ? Is he allowed to make a declension on his own or does he have to clear it with the video ref each time.

Seriously I know it's a hard job but the standard of refereeing gets worse each year. Bring back Bill.

Coaches are encouraging their players to milk penalties as they get up to play the ball after being tackled. There are a number of methods being used. One method which was blatantly used by Inglis recently is where the tackled player feigns to fall forward in order to make it look like he was pushed by the tackler. Another method is where the tackled player purposely tangles with the tackler's arms/legs.

Absolutely inconsistent, Grant Mayer should end a strongly worded letter to Daniel Anderson & Taffy Smith about how teams at the opposite end of the ladder are refereed, I was pleased how the team capitalised on the first penalty of the game by scoring 3 quick tries while the Media darling was off the field.

I think they were square ups from the sin binning, which was probably uncalled for.I don't think refs can be called guilty of bias but they do try to "square the ledger". In last night's case it was over the top

Same thing every year. The teams at the top of the ladder get a free ride while the teams at the bottom get hammered. Been happening for years.

Bravo some common sense it's not right but it's been like this forever and the Tigers have had the rub over periods when they were on top over the years,it the way it is.

As typical Aussie Culture (convict suppression)
We stay quite and by the next day lest we forget. Actually its our nature to think its absurd to stand up for ourselves ( not everyone)
THIS IS COMMERCIAL CHEATING GOING ON THE CLUB SHOULD BE PROTESTING LIKE CRAZY and staging each point on the media.
Instead the media have been told to cover up as the ratings will favour them!
THIS IS JUST SPORT it is also done in other areas

Let me tell you the way it is. When Refs are not busy practicing the christian names of the 400 or so NRL players, or cultivating expressions like 'I'll sit yer down', 'go away' and 'It's on report', they apply the rules in pre determined periods. And yes, they do favour teams, particularly those they've put a little cash on

A massive part of the problem is we treat the referees like 15 year old kids who give up their saturdays to ref the games. The reality is they are "professionals" who are paid a damn good wage to do what they do and need to be treated this way.

I find it hard to believe that all the penalties in a game can go to an 8 2 or 10 4 tune. Both teams make the same indiscretions yet only one gets called for it. That's corruption.

I think its more self preservation by the refs. If a top team goes down to a bottom team they come under more scrutiny. But if they ref poorly yet the top team wins they get off cos most people think "well the better team won" and a poor performance is forgotten a lot easier.

It will continue to happen until the NRL and media jump on this and bring it to everyones attention. But dont hold your breath

Perrenara couldn't give us a penalty if he tried. And deadset how many cannonball tackles did the Burgess brothers do. Ridiculous amount.
