A complete focus on youth next season?

With the rumoured departures of Gibbs and Fulton, the retirement of Payten, and whispers of Heighington leaving too (along with Fifita) it seems that we will have a very different forward pack next season.

If these players were all to move on, what would our side look like?

8\. Woods
9\. Farah
10\. Galloway
11\. Blair
12\. Ellis
13.

14\. Murdoch-Masila
15\. Groat
16\. Dwyer
17.

Have I missed anyone? Seems like a couple of holes to fill if Heighington was let go…

Woods
Ellis
Galloway
Dwyer
Blair
Murdoch-Masila
Groat
Al Schirnack
Begovich
Roqica
Pearn
Jason Schirnack
Hyland
Trimarchi
Spence
Sue
Vourlous
Moors
Curran
Vunakece
Achurch
Pulu
Davidson
D Fifita

All these players would do a job tbh. Begovich and Pearn especially could easily handle first grade. J Schirnack and Trimarchi HAVE played first grade. Hyland would be Fulton mark 2 if Sheens wanted to go that way. Curran plays well above his weight and would be a perfect swap for Heighington. Roqica is still NYC age! Has gone from a winger to a prop while here at the Tigers and is developing very well at prop, has been stuck against the big guys and is really toughening up. Vunakece is a massive human being and if he landed a top grade contract and got the benefit of the WT First Grade off season he could probably make the transition better than any of them. And the rest could probably do a job too. I'd take a guess and say if we lose Gibbs, Fulton, Fifita and Heighington as well as the retirement we'd go like.

Not all doom and gloom if you ask me. That's still a gun first grade side and the depth isn't too bad really. Most of those players are incredible talents. I also get the feeling that we have another signing that hasn't been leaked. Personally I'm hoping we've nabbed Wes Naiqama to play fullback.

Macdougall - great post and agree with all your comments especially Wes Naiqama to play full back and a second goal kicker.

The future so bright I have to wear shades.

You say that, but nothing is a certainty. What if they flop in FG, or don't step up to the mark?

Plenty of outstanding talents in lower grades never do much in FG.

J. Schirnack looks alright, but Trimarchi is nothing special at all.

Will not make it in FG if you ask me. Nothing special. Good defender but completely impotent in attack.

I agree with these sentiments, but if Begovich and Pearn are first grade flops, there are 7 or 8 other lower grade front rowers ready to have a dig. If they're flops then we look elsewhere. It's the nature of the NRL. I wasn't so much saying that Schirnack and Trimarchi are great either, just pointing out that they have first grade experience and I agree that Hyland wouldn't handle first grade, I was just suggesting that he could be the Fulton replacement in Sheens' plans. This is why when you saw my actual side, of the ones you pointed out I only had Begovich, Pearn and Schirnack in my top 30 and none of them in the top 17\. Pick faults with my post though go ahead.

I have seen Pearn in a couple of state cup matches and was surprised he has not been considered. Looks like he can handle the rough stuff and has a bit of size to him compared to Shirnack. Any idea why he hasnt had a go? Does he play many minutes?

I also though that Vunakece was a monster and could create great impact from the bench. Maybe mobility is a problem as Sheens prefers mobility to size (look at the trimming down of Al Shirnack and Fifita).

MacDougall I don't think your squad has enough experience. Plenty of talent but not enough experience. Thats why I have a feeling that we might be signing a couple of players on top of Blair. Just my thoughts…...happy if you disagree...

No Tigersmurf I actually agree. I think we're going to be picking up at least one more player on top of blair. Newcastle have a lot of talent being cut loose. Zeb Tai'a, Keith Lulia, Wes Naiqama being the pick of them. I'd be pretty stoked if we snagged one of those boys.

Haha nah I'm just bad with phrasing sometimes. I'm speculating on the future of course I want faults picked with my speculation.

We do have some good cattle coming through the ranks but to have maybe five players in your top squad with under 50 FG games under the belt is a receipt for disaster. You can bring one or two into a squad but not to many more. Also Sheens formula has always been pack as much experience into your 17 as you can get your hands on

That's not so much the case anymore Supercoach. I think you'll find that the majority of sides have at least 5 players in their top squad with less than 50 games.

Hyland would be Fulton mark 2 if Sheens wanted to go that way.

Dallas Johnson will go down as one of Queensland Greatest unsung hero's by being nothing more than a tackling machine

Its widely regarded that for a club to remain successful (or in our case, become successful), then one of two things need to happen, either get a new coach or have a high turnover of players.

It came to crunch time regarding our coach this year, and its painfully obvious which way the club has decided to go. Personally, im against it and would have made the easier, less painful and more logical move of freshening up the place with a new coach, but that isnt to be. So now its our players who are getting the shaft.

Local juniors and guys who came into first grade with us are making the sacrifice for one man's job. We've witnessed these players have highs and lows as they find their feet in first grade, and now it looks like we have to say goodbye. I hope whoever does end up leaving go on to have great careers, i wish them all the best.

One thing is for sure, Tim Sheens has not earned this right to shaft players, but, at least he's trying to do something rather than keeping things the same.

So…......the jury will be out in a big big way regarding the decision by the board to go with one man over several homegrown players. I dare say, it better work, or god help Tim Sheens and the board.

I said the same thing a few weeks ago–to keep a joint fresh you either turnover players or the coach. But in our case King Siro I really think its a combination of signing Blair and massive cap problems but in the end wash up it could be really good for our club. When you think of it none of the strong clubs were pulling their cheque books out for all the players we were trying to sell so maybe that says something.

this has been tried last six years hasnt worked

Yeah just more the same BS focussing on a few years down the track.
WHAT ABOUT NOW???

Ink take a positive pill mate…If we let go of some of our younger brigade to keep players that may only have 1 or 2 good years left in them then hows that good business sense. Its a business not a charity. We run 3rd last year who knows we may even make the big one this year.

Ok sirro you say a new coach what do you think a new coach would do in his second year atleast...hed get the broom or be like bennett and not give a chance for guys to prove themselves and punt them anyway.
