The major stats that tell the story of the differences between all teams are as below:

Points scored: We scored 275 less points than the Roosters. Over 24 rounds that equals over 11 points / game.

Penalties against: We were the equal third worst team when it came to conceeding penalties. Our 144 is equal to 6 / game.

Possession %: The comp was reasonably even over 24 rounds with the highest (52% not much greater than the lowest (47%). We were just shy of even.

Set Completions: Again, our 79% was not far behind the leaders on 82%. We were mid table.

Linebreaks: This was a bad stat for us. We were miles off the pace.

All Run Meters: Again terrible. We were 6784m worse off than Penrith.

Kick Return Meters: Terrible. Need a vast improvement from our back 3.

Missed Tackles: Second worst in the comp. Far too high to compete without being able to re-group and cover.

Errors: These were bad but not as bad as I first thought.

All in all, our inability to be able to absorb the impacts of many of these elements led to our demise this year.

We're pretty much bad at everything..big job ahead for coach Benji
Yeah I think we all got what we expected out of all those stats, I think it’s pretty obvious from watching a game or two.
It’s an easy fix, we just need to do the opposite of all those stats next year.

Problem is..theres not just one or two issues to focus on to fix things..its everything

The Doggies missed the most tackles this year yet had the 3rd best defence.
We had the second most missed tackles and the worst defence.
It’s what happens directly after a stuff up such as a dropped ball, missed tackle, infringement etc that hurts us. Other mobs are better able to regroup.

Hey @Tucker; thanks for pulling these four assessmants together. The results weren't anything unexpected given where we won the spoon. I think overall there are four telling stats overall: missed tackles, the lack of line breaks; our inability to make metres with the ball and our poor kicking. While they tell a story I think that there are a few intangibles that we need to throw up as well:

1. Game Control. We lacked the ability to up or slow the tempo of the game depending on how we were travelling. I don't recall seeing anyone kicking to slow the play when we were buggered or pick the pace up when we were on a roll. While I rate Api as a hooker I don't think he is a great Captain, or if he was making the right calls he was not supported well by Sezer or Galvin. We really need a playmaker that thinks as well as Cam Smith or DCE and a player or two that they can call on to turn a game when required.

2. Resillience. Wests Tigers, for a long while, lack the resillience to stay in the game when things go south. We simply don't cope well with a player down or sin binned. We need to develop a defensive mindset to cater for this. The up an in defence we utilised this year was poor, especially when AD was on the field flailing about like a landed fish! This is also where a good kicking game and an astute Captain come into play (see point 1). Slow the play, kick for touch and dawdle to the scrum to slow momentum, question the referee and then when the breath is back ask them to go around us and push them into the sideline and make up for the player down with great cover defence (or scramble for the new aged guys); and finally,

3. Mongrel. We don't have to be Western Suburbs under Roy Masters, but we need to more of the agression shown by Bateman and Seyfarth - just controlled. We need to win the collision - with and without the ball. Do that and with the ball the metres add up, the line breaks come and the points start to flow; do it in D and all of a sudden there is more time to reset, the post contact metres fall and low and behold points against are minimised.

All of these can be coached (with the right roster) and don't rely on the inate ability of the individual.
