AARON WOODS FOCUSES ON HIS MAIN GOAL

His name has been linked as a ‘Kangaroos bolter’ but for classy young Wests Tigers prop Aaron Woods, he has another goal on his mind.
Woods has experienced the highs and lows of rugby league over the past two years. The 2010 season was written off due to a chronic hamstring injury that saw the very talented forward play just two games.
When 2011 pre-season training rolled around, Woods was just excited to be back with his mates. His first ‘surprise’ came with selection in the NSW Emerging Blues squad. Wests Tigers Head Coach Tim Sheens then rewarded him for a strong pre-season with his NRL debut against the Bulldogs in round one.
The record books now show Woods played 24 games in the Telstra Premiership. And just when Woods thought his season was over, came the “biggest shock” of them all – he was selected in the Australian train-on squad for the Four Nations tournament alongside Robbie Farah, Chris Lawrence and Keith Galloway.
Modest as they come, Woods still shakes his head in disbelief. He looks at the selection as a ‘win-win’ situation.
“I didn’t even know what to think of it at first. It wasn’t a goal of mine that’s for sure. My goal was just to play 3-5 first grade games especially after what I went through last season,’’ Woods said.
“It is good to be acknowledged and it makes me want to train even harder.
“If I get chosen in the final squad, words couldn’t describe how I would feel. To go on a tour with the Kangaroos would be a dream come true. I use to love watching those tours as a young boy.
“If I miss out, then it is still very positive for me to just be a part of it. I didn’t even think my name would be listed amongst those quality players.
“To be honest, my main goal is to get a (starting) Wests Tigers jersey first.
“I’d be very happy with that but I still have plenty of hard work to do.”
