Does everyone else have the same ad on the right hand side of the page

The NRMA ad with Shane Webcke in his broncos polo shirt

Just think it is funny that on the Tigers forum page there is a Ex Broncos player

I believe most of the ads on this site are heavily influenced by your google searches (at least the ads on the side). I'm constantly reminded of ads for hotel booking sites I've recently scoped out. Your ad would suggest either you've been looking up insurance/car/NRMA stuff (hopefully) or alternatively, you've made a stack of searches on Shane Webke! (I hope it's the former!)

As an aside we wouldn't get the Webke version of the NRMA ad down in NSW - that's just for the Bananabender customers!

Yeah as I write this I see a pest control ad and I've never searched for that. I guess it might be a mix of Google monitoring people's seaches and generic stuff. I'm sure you'd be getting the Qld version of the NRMA ad because the ad software knows you're based in Qld. The depth of knowledge google has on its users is both impressive and scary at the same time!

Explains the Chippendales Mens Dancers advertisements I get, thats for sure… :roll

But in all seriousness, yeah Yoss is Bang on - it's heavily influenced by your previous search history, website visits.

As we speak, my banner advertising is an ad for a KOGAN 46" LED Television - by my deduction its through me buying christmas and birthday presents for my wife through their website, so my frequent returning there and ordering of stock has stockpiled my history with Kogan searches.

Best thing about the ads here? Not all that intrusive. Kudos forum creators for not making it site that way.

I'm not sure if this is a stupid question or not, but does the forum gain anything for having the advertisements on the site?

I'm sure an admin will have a better answer but I'd say it is part of the package for the site hosting. Much like press advertising, the ads allow the host to "subsidise" the cost for the end user. I'm guessing WTF sees none of the revenue and has close to zero say on how the process for choosing the ads.

we choose to have the ads, they aren't a requirement.
They help cover the cost of hosting + 3rd party components that help in the management of the site (eg. tipping comp, video hosting, powering RoarFEED, etc.).

Just as long as it doesn't put us over the cap, and we won't lose premiership points, I have no problem with this arrangement.

With Champions like Kul and Kaiser and the MODS I'd say we already over the cap already
But one of the filing cabinets is missing thats all so we won't get caught
