Age at NRL debut for halves

With the club looking at having some young halves in place for next year in Brooks and mayby Moses I thought I'd look at their age and the comparative age of other halves that have done well in the nrl in recent years. I have put in when they became their teams half as well as debut as some of them played off the bench for a couple of yrs

Adam Reynolds - debut age 21 yrs 7 myths
Daly cherry Evans -22 yrs
Jonathan thruston - 19 yrs at debut but was 21 and 10mths before he played as starter
Mitchell Pearce -18 yrs but his team lost 11 from 16 in his first yr
Chris Sandow -19 yrs 5 mths
Cooper cronk -20yr 6 mths another 2 yrs before he was permanent in halves
Todd carney -18 yrs , was still playing off bench at 20
Peter Wallace 21 yrs 5 mths
Scott prince -18 yrs , 2 mths but was another year before he started permanently again in a loosing team
Andrew johns - 19 yrs 10mths

Given that Brooks will only be 19 and 2 mths and Moses 19 and 5 mths next year and delayed by his injuries when the comp starts then we really are expecting more then we perhaps should at this age

. Really interesting that those who have come on and dominated in the last couple of years cherry Evans, cronk and Reynolds have all been 21 plus

Even the magical Joey Johns was almost 20

People think that just because there stars in under 20's and hype them up as future stars that they will be guns in the NRL , it is a total different ball game . I'm hoping they do but doesn't necessarily mean they will , just like Tedesco in the NRL haven't seen anything at this level thus far to suggest his going to be what everyone hyped him up for.

The only thing worse then people hyping up untested players, are the people who whinge about the hyping up.

Although I guess the next worst thing is people whinging about the whinging haha!

I don't think it's true to say people don't understand the differences between NYC and NRL. I've seen hyped up players like Blake Lazarus and Jacob Miller and didn't think they were as good as the wraps they were getting. However Brooks and Moses are a different story.

As for Tedesco we're basically talking about a guy in his rookie year playing in a team being well-beaten most weeks. The ongoing criticism of him is a bit OTT in my opinion. Some of the people bagging him would be first in line to criticise the club if he was released and made the grade somewhere else… I think he'll be a very good fullback for us for a long time.

Whingeception

I think a lot of people forget that NYC was once equivalent to the old Jersey Flegg (u/19's -20s) comp.
From there players progressed to Presidents cup (21s) -> U/23's -> Reserve grade- 1st grade.

Theyre basically skipping two to three grades now.

Its getting tiring

Everyone needs to understand that next year it will be there FIRST year in first grade and don't expect them to win us games they are going to make mistakes and miss tackles and drop balls and hopefully don't get injured etc so be prepared for another year near the bottom of the table, give them at least a FULL year in first grade to find their feet
