Alex McKinnon

having a bit of a look for precedent and an NFL player named dennis byrd was left paralysed after breaking his C5 vertebra in a game in 1992\. it says that after extensive physio he was again able to walk, so hopefully alex mckinnon will get back there as well.
that was 22 years ago so i hope a lot of advances have been made in that time and just maybe he will get back on his feet.

A lot of people in the media calling the suspension a joke and whatnot. Maybe a week or two excessive, but really can McLean feel that bad, because:

Nothing compared to Mackinnons sentence

Exactly

I think the penalty is a tad harsh but under the circumstances the game had to be seen to be proactive in the protection of its most vital assets - the players. A lenient sentence would have given the knockers more ammo to fire at the sport. Unfortunately, a player has been severley injured on television and you could hear the knives being sharpened almost immediately.

Case in point, on the Today show the other morning, the editor in chief of that trashy gossip rag the Womans Weekly was given 5 minutes air time to rant about the evils of the game. Even though she admitted to not watching or knowing very little about the sport! She condescendingly chastised parents who allow their children to play this "brutal" sport and said the only skill is about being able to take a hard hit. She argued with and talked down to Ben Fordam who tried to defend the game before stating that the injury to Alex was solely the fault of the NRL.

Her name is Helen McCabe and she is an overly opinionated feminazi pigdog from way back…who just happens to be a rampant AFL supporter. All the comments she made were overly exaggerated ignorant dribble, however, they are echoed by many who know nothing of the sport. The problem is that this moron has clout in the media and is appearing on television, radio and you can almost gaurantee print as well to continue her attacks.

7 weeks seems harsh for the act alone, but taking into consideration the outcome, there is some justification for it. I will stop short of calling it a political decision....but only just.

Helen McCabe is entitled to her opinion, but let's bear in mind she is the editor of a magazine that peddles in voyeurism and lies about celebrities and promotes intrusion on their lives. She's far from a beacon of moral purity, there's no justification for what she does for a living. This is not an attack on her simply because she's female either. I loathe any publication that enables the paparazzi.

Newcastle's summation so far is pretty spot on

Can't believe young Maclean is bearing the brunt of the judgement , the other two tacklers played their parts in this

Will this ruling in regards to getting extra weeks because of an injury now be used is every ruling ??

UPDATE: McKINNON BACK IN SYDNEY
TWO weeks after fracturing his neck in Melbourne, Alex McKinnon has finally been transferred to Sydney.

The Knights have confirmed McKinnon is currently in a stable condition.

The good news comes on the back of today’s earlier announcement that Alex and his long-time partner Teigan were engaged to be married.
