Where is @tiga4eva when you need him (or her)? I'd like an authoritative update on what led Josh to (allegedly) make his comments today? Perhaps just summarise his/her last 6 or so chats with him today will be sufficient. No need for grandstanding now.

Manly offering almost 700k is absurd, and way over what we're willing to pay. Can't fault the club for not offering him that much.
Did he actually say that he'll never wear the jersey again or is that just Chammas paraphrasing the impression he got? No direct quotes in there.
The whole notion of letting him play in CC next year for the Magpies is also absurd and impossible. His offer from manly only exists if he gets released now. They are not interested in signing him for 2022, only next season as a replacement for AFB.
Of course we don't have to release him like Storm didn't with JAC, and as a player who's previously been highly committed and professional I would expect him to honour the contract.
In the end, and as i've said numerous times before, i see Josh as a bench prop. A handy player but a player with flaws in his ball handling and defence and giving away penalties. These flaws haven't improved over the past 5 years.
If Manly want him for next season they'll have to offer us something, and i believe that is most likely to be Sean Keppie. He was close to signing with us before joining Manly. His access to first grade would be lessend by Aloiai's arrival, and he'd be something of a like for like swap. Cheaper than Josh, and a big boy with good wraps on him.
Schuster could be an option too if he's unsettled, but we'd still need to replace Aloiai. Paseka another option, but would he come back??.

Other clubs seem to keep this stuff in house. Looks what's happened with JAC and even Dragons with Saab.

To make matters worse, our Chairman has gone on record.

Seems pretty obvious to me..Manly willing to pay significant cash ..if he comes in 2021...if not ..the $$$$ would be less from 2022 onwards..

Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipentalis will urge the NRL to create rules that stop players breaking contracts to cash in at rival clubs after prop Josh Aloiai stunned the joint-venture with a release request and scathing assessment.

Aloiai's manager Tyran Smith has asked for an immediate release after Manly are understood to have tabled a two-year deal believed to be significantly more lucrative than the extension offered by the Tigers recently.

The news stunned Tigers officials given Aloiai's vocal support for Michael Maguire in recent years and his professed commitment to turning the club around.

**But when negotiations around a two-year Tigers extension stalled, Aloiai's intentions were made clear in a text to a senior Tigers official that read: "I have no desire to represent the Wests Tigers organisation or put a Wests Tigers jersey on again".**

Privately the Tigers believe Aloiai's release request stems from the Sea Eagles' own two-year contract for 2022-23 being contingent on him joining the club next season.

Manly CEO Stephen Humphries denied any contingency exists.

NRL.com understands though that the club has salary cap space to accommodate Aloiai if he exits Concord early.

"We have a high regard for Josh, he's a fine player and a leader but he is contracted for 2021," Humphries told NRL.com.

"We're interested in attracting him to our club, but all our discussions have been for 2022 and beyond. 2021 has not been mentioned in our conversations."

Hugely disappointed in how things have unfolded.

I don't know how bringing Matterson into the discussion while choosing to ignore the fact we are undergoing yet another retention blunder helps. I couldn't care less about player reputations once they leave our club but rather more how we can change ours re: our retention/recruitment.

I'm also pretty certain Twal is actually his best mate, so does that mean we'll lose him? Who cares if players wish to follow suit of other former players. The concern should be more focused on our most problematic issues. Prospects won't care about the reasons either however will more likely question our treatment of players.

No retention blunder from listening to Lee H on radio we made offers back and forth and then Josh A has said i am leaving as he has a bigger offer from club x

Look I get all that but it's not how it's gonna play out in the media. We all have a loyalty to the club and personal bias but this doesn't help the perception of the club's retention and recruitment one bit. Which is my whole point.

So you would what, have the club pay well more than they were prepared to just for the sake of keeping him for the optics of how it would play out in the media? That would just replace a perceived poor recruitment and retention strategy with an actual poor recruitment and retention policy...

I think I've been pretty clear in stating I only care about our retention and recruitment reputation and image, and building the team to a stronger position. IDC about media perception but more what prospective targets think.

Melbourne hung onto JAC because it didn't work for them for whatever reason to let him go. They had a contract and they enforced it. Granted they have the on field success to make it more palatable for JAC but there's no reason why on-field success should factor into a legally binding contract being enforced, it goes back to my previous comment that if you don't want to find yourself in this situation, then chance the risk and play year on year. They won't do that though because you're only ever one tackle away from a career ending injury. They expect security and flexibility. In Rugby League they are mutually exclusive if you're signing long term (3+ year,) contracts.

Thankyou as this was what I was kinda getting at.
Also hate that player managers and players take advantage of the club's position but at the same time was more suggesting that the club look at it's retention/recruitment policy.
This is not specifically a dig at our adminstration which I feel some forumer's have been misinterpreting, but that we examine this department more closely - as it's at the centre of our biggest issues.
I wasn't trying to provoke anyone either but rather looking at it from different perspective/angle. I believe the club has faced worse than this and the Matterson saga.
I just don't wait to see the club be brought to its hands and knees again or feeling any long-term residual effects. So the basis of my original comment was, how can we work toward getting better results in our biggest problem area(retention and recruitment).

We certainly do have to be very careful with this Aloiai situation. If Mikaele and other players are supporting Aloiai on social media over the club, then that spells big trouble for us.

We can't replace the whole side, we couldn't afford it.

Forgive the cliche, but we are in real danger of losing the playing group. Some we are fine to lose, but not all of them. We need to make sure the players we want to retain are on our side, start buttering them up Madge.

What do you mean "apparently"? You're making it up?

lol no not me. I read it somewhere, but can't remember where. And I don't know if it's absolutely 100% correct, I have no inside information, so don't want to tell someone it's 100% true when I don't know that.

Paul Kent has even admitted that their agents tell them to kick stones around at training if they don't get their way.

Yeah in light of that text message I think I'd like to see no release unless and until:
- We get a suitable player in return; and
- The NRL have introduced a rule that players cannot be paid any more than they would have earned during a contracted year following a release.

That way we get some value out of it and we get to spike him for his mongrel act and cost him a few hundred grand.
