An almost identical season to 2007

I was just thinking about this a couple of weeks ago, but both seasons followed a very similar path.

Both seasons began very badly but were followed by long winning streaks, then just as our seasons were on track, the team spluttered along, finally finishing the season with some awful performances.

Performances such as our hidings against Souths at LO in 07 where the team just didn't show up when the reward for the winner was a top 8 spot, and our performance against the Roosters this year when the season was on the line as well.
Plus other factors such as in 07 and 12 we had Robbie and Fulton in the halves at stages and Benji was tried at 7 in both years. Just a comparison of the two seasons:

2007
9th place
Pts: 26 (11-13)
Points for: 541
Points against: 561

And our season panned out with
4 straight losses
6 straight wins
1 loss
1 win
2 straight losses
2 straight wins
2 straight losses
1 win
2 straight losses
1 win
2 straight losses

2012
10th place
Pts: 26 (11-13)
Points for: 506
Points against: 551

1 win
5 straight losses
7 straight wins
3 straight losses
1 win
2 straight losses
2 straight wins
3 straight losses

It just shows to me that, even though results have been good over the last couple of years (until this year), things haven't really changed from the coaching side of things.
I am starting to think that the good results from 2010 to stages of this year have come from our captain showing the way and providing the leadership and motivation that maybe the coaching staff don't provide.
From the outside looking in I just don't see Sheens as the motivating type where players would die for the team. I don't think it's a coincidence that not long after Robbie was made captain, we made the finals and when he has been missing, we have been very lackluster and lazy in defence.

Just my opinion anyway.

I disagree, in 2007 despite losing our first 4 games we played well, and as a result our season turned around. This season we never hit our stride and never looked like anything more than a mid table team. Apart from the Cowboys, we didn't beat one team in the top 8 who were in good form (we also beat Melbourne minus big 3, Cronulla with some luck in GP and Canberra when they were in diabolical form). Only thing the 2 season have in common is a late season collapse.

The only benchmark I require is a greater than or equal to 12-12 win/loss - anything less is unsatisfactory.

Interesting point about Farah. He's the most important player in our side. Just look at Marshall when we're without Farah, it seems as though he goes into his shell and doesn't want a part in the game, where as Robbie has carried this side for years.

we were doomed before the season began with the favourites tag…. that never sits well with us and how we were ever installed favs is beyond me had lui hung around might have been a bit more sense, but lui and gibbs leaving equals no semi's IMO.
