Anasta, Lawrence, Ayshford and Blair

Thanks for tonight! I've been critical of the effort you have each put in in the season openers. Tonight under difficult conditions wth Big Keith out and inexperienced players like Ava thrown in at the deep end you old stagers put your hands up and were stabilisers. Thanks - please keep it real for the rest of the season and who knows?…

Anasta definitely went missing for long periods from what I saw, but also did lots of small things right that you only see from seasoned players like himself. Had our front row stocks not been so severely depleted I would have benched him for Pettybourne next week

I thought Blair did very well tonight. Great to see. Anasta did some good things but I can't seeing him staying in the second row for too much longer.

+1 on Ayshford, was really strong for most of the game
Anasta did the little things right, but not much else.
Blair - decent involvement and lots of little touches. Just wish he wouldn;t stop and back into the line every time he runs the ball. Unlike moltzen at least he runs it though.
Lawrey - lovely to see him get a double through running hard and straight

Agreed. Blair really gave it a go tonight and always seemed to be there when a solid hit up was needed. Straightened up our attack close at the opposition goal line.

Anasta was solid, but worry about him as a long term option.
Since it's early i am trusting he will gel and find his way of making an impact and cement a spot.

Moltzen was also great tonight! Still unsure of his kick returns, but in overall he's gradually improving.

Blake was tough tonight, I think Lawrence learnt to take advantage of the Koroibete threat on his outside in attack. Blair has been good for us even though the stats dont show it, he is a pro, just need to pick when he backs into the line or punches it. Preasuring kickers and quick play the ball are almost habit to him. Braith, he was ok, he didnt shy away from first contact with props he helped shut down fui, and even though he dropped it, was in Reddy's pocket metres out on an attacking raid. He isnt dogging it, and is coming around to a new role and structure. He isnt slipping into a predetermined structure but injected into an evolving squad, he deserves our patience.

Blair was plenty more involved tonight. Thoroughly enjoyed what he offered.

Moltzen, well he seems to have continued on from last week in getting the little things right. I agree that he is still shirking the hard yards on the kick returns but I he is largely improving his game, and he may well be doing it bit by bit. The measuring stick will come against a side that doesn't have to kick in their own half and will put pressure on the kick chase.

Anasta did nothing
Blair had just about his best game in Tigers colours. Clearly suited to lock where he'll get in and rove as opposed to catching a cold out wide

Blair's best game since leaving Melbourne tonight and it was miles ahead of his previous best for us.

Anasta also improved, becoming a good cover defender too.

Fulton stuck to his tackles.

Young Ava had a good game, bent the line a few times. I like what I see there.

Lawrence and Ayshford was the most pleasing thing tonight, back to doing what they do best, Lawrence-hitting gaps at pace and Ayshford backing himself.

Just need to work harder on that defence still.

Pettybourne has pace, but it's obviously only brief. He explodes onto the field and has impact for 10 minutes and then is just gone. I don't remember him being that unfit at the 'Tohs. Bizarre and explains the way Potter has treated him so far. I am really liking what I see from Potter so far tbh. Hasn't made a wrong call yet imo.

I think I had a serious case of de-ja-vu last night watching Ayshford & Lawrence, back in their pre-injury days! Lawrence, ran it straight and hard and broke the line. Payed off twice with tries
Ayshford looked so dangerous on the right edge, he ran onto the balls and hit the line hard.

What was their dramatic turn-around? Most likely I think the whole team is buzzing around Farah's re-signing. But I'm hoping this wasn't just a one-off.

Jeez Pettybourne tired badly.

I think he hurt his hand/wrist mate. Watched the game again and saw him pull straight up holding it and struggling to get back to defend.

The thing I noticed about Blair tonight was his talk. He was guiding Buchanan and Woods everywhere tonight. Also his line speed and sprinting to get back into line. Looks like his sprint training last year paid off.

The only issue I had with him was at the game it seemed like a fair few set plays just died with him close to the line when there was a few opportunities out wide. He sometime over-did the straightening of the attack.

Was good to see the forwards doing a lot of ball playing this week. Potter obviously thinks we probably don't have the size to run over them so well run around them. Just loved the energy, high-fiving and the fact we built pressure. Second half we should have dug the knife in, but as long as we learn from it.

I will take blair at times slightly over-doing the straightening of the attack. Its when we win. When we play too much east west we are gonners.

Having stability in the halves & a proper game plan with simple, yet effective set plays that emphasise their strengths.

Aka coaching 101.

Another of Blair's major contributions is his play the ball speed. It's second to none and really gives Farah and the others great momentum. Anasta –- hmmm. I'm prepared to give him some more time to find out exactly where he fits into the team structure and how best to utilise his talents. I don't think we lose too much at the moment with him there. (In any case, we don't have a lot of options at the moment - having Bodene back this week will give the selectors a little more flexibility).
