still grinning...Some people may argue our win came for an understrength Penrith team. Perhaps even that Fortuna, or Tyche, was on our side.
Those that have feet on the ground though, will recognise that this game was the culmination of a lot of work, sweat, belief (and doubt). Yes, a burden that has been lifted, albeit temporarily, from shoulders that had been carrying it but with heads that were always held high. We were buiding toward this win, make no mistake. We didn't get it right, and in fact got more wrong, but only those that accept failure will move on (and learn) from it. Basic football, for a basic game. Until we learn to do more (and we have the skills to improve).
It is a milestone for a team that many had written off (with justifiable reasons) but thankfully there is a thing called spirit. Its that spirit that makes us do unbelievable things in the face of overwhelming odds. The 40% rule from the US Navy Seals. Just when we thought Brooks was cooked, he puts in a performance like that.
I read once that sport's "spirit" is an abstruse concept: you can't touch it or see it; you'll probably never hear it. You might sometimes feel it, but if you have to write down in the Queen's English what "it" is, well ….
I am not going to dwell in the technicalities of the game, the weather conditions, who made what tackle when..I'll leave this for those that are far more qualified.
This post is about something more esoteric, celebrating a team spirit that has been able to rise above the "logic" of the game where games are won on paper. before a ball is kicked, the critics, with their blades always sharpened; sections of the media, who love nothing more that a corpse to feast on.
To all of you, I dedicate this victory.
With the supporters, I celebrate the spirit of this team.
