Andrew Vela in Top Squad

Now this is weird to me. I know he was signed with huge wraps a couple of years back and has been hampered by injuries but to be honest he hasn't really done anything to deserve this.

The definition of getting picked on reputation and junior accolades right here.

He is very, very good.

That and why not as he will be on a longer term minimum contract which is exactly what we need

He is a big boy! Very strong! Will be nice to have some size in our depth also.. Not likely to get a call up to firsts till end if the year unless we have big injury issues again. Has potential!

A strong running forward, Andrew Vela will be looking to make up for lost opportunity in the NYC after suffering a season ending shoulder injury early in 2012.

A bit like a Moi Moi or Galuvao type player. Not tall, but reasonably well built and runs and hits HARD. He wouldn't have a NRL WT contract, just a WT nsw cup contract, and on minimum wage too.

Worth one more shot, but it is his last chance now. Any more knee injuries and his career could well be gooone..

Does it start with 33 now and then go down to 25 earlier next year?

I think so, not sure though. Were there any changes to the salary cap for 2014, i know they were gonna redo the 2nd tier but i assumed that wouldnt have been done yet.

Can anyone shed any light on the top 33 vs 25?

I understand it as being, 25 will be chosen for the first tier salary cap. The other eight will be payed using the second tier salary cap.

but then how come those 8 are in our top 33? or rather, why do we have a top 33?

My thoughts are the top 33 train and then the top 25 are chosen from those sessions. A good way to sort out some of the fringe players and allow potter to get a good look at everyone.

I remember reading last year McDonnell or sheens saying that if he hadn't of got injured they expected him to play first grade in 2012\. A lot of faith in him shown by the club after effectively missing 2 whole years of footy. At the ages of 19 & 20 they are huge years for his development. Admittedly I only saw him play 2 games of NYC this year, however I was greatly under whelmed. He was just about the smallest forward on the field and didn't impress what so ever. Still as said he always had big wraps. Hopefully he has an injury free 2014 and we can see what he is really made of.

I thought the top 25 were already effectively chosen already, in that the top 25 are the highest paid 25 at the club. Those 25 have a cap limit.

But then the 2nd tier blokes might be in the training squad, i.e the extra 8\. These blokes also have a cap limit, but I don't think there is a player limit on how many you can squeeze into this.

I believe the problem that we had last year is that we had used our 2nd tier cap up with injuries so to add brooks into that put us over.

But anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong.

The 33 are the full time players and must contain the top 25 (simply the 25 highest paid) a certain number of players from NYC and some second tier players who have a higher minimum salary than the rest of nsw cup playets

You are supposed to be limited to 33 full time players in the season proper after an agreement with the players association, those outside the squad are supposed to be able to have jobs
