Another Phil Rothfield Gem

I think that it is silly to play SOO as a stand-alone game on a weekend, since it doesn't fill the demand for sport. That would leave other sports free to poach fans who have nothing better to do.

So I used to think that Wednesday nights were best for SOO.

But I have heard suggestions that have now changed my mind. Having more representative football played on the same weekend as SOO would be great for rugby league, both in Sydney and internationally. Allowing players to represent their countries in games between the pacific islands would mean that fewer players would choose to play for NSW or QLD. Having more city vs country games (both in NSW and QLD) would give more fringe representative players the chance to shine. Maybe even having games like Victoria vs South Australia in the future would be possible.

There are definitely other options available that should be considered, meaning we wouldn't just have one game of footy played on the weekend.

shouldn't souths be leading the comp then.that's right they had dave taylor out,so they had no chance at winning more games.

it all evens itself out.
we have fielded a few teams this year below full strength and resorted to our 3rd string halfback.
how many teams consistently win with their 3rd string halfback that has played little football the last 2 years.

in saying that, gidley is the only player that has missed a game because of selection.
we had the bye when players are in camp for game 2.
the back up game from game 1 was against the warriors who had zero players and then beat the dogs a week later.
i don't think the raiders lost because 3 players were backing up from a game 4 days earlier.
we now play our 3rd and final game of the season after a 5 day turnaround.

but to bring up our loss to souths and players not deserving selection is funny when the cowboys and dogs have less wins combined than the tigers yet have 7 players taking part.
idiot

I agree with Smeg ….... using origin fairness to have a go at Tim and the club. Why did he single us out when he could have used Souths for his story ?

He is right in my opinion but I question his motives all the same.

He's right about Origin having a much greater effect on teams than others, but thats a poorly veiled swipe at Sheens statement about the Tigers players warranting selection and not getting picked.

Perhaps if his paper encouraged selection of the right players instead of sucking up to media whores such as Ennis, Hayne, Gallen, Gidley and Idris, the right players might be selected and NSW might win an Origin.

Still love his 3-blot calls to NSW every year, they give me a right chuckle. Keep tipping them Phil, even a broken clock is right twice a day…

His motives were obvious when he reffered to Farah as a "Fringe Player"

What a spastic old alcoholic he is

He's nothing but a troll….writes to get a reaction....and reactions he gets
The only way he stays in a job.
Ignore him is the best reply.

I actually think his general argument is reasonably valid though his clear swipe at us is ridiculously off the mark. As you guys have mentioned, we've had byes and injuries, both contradict the reasons this nuffy is trying to make. He's a shocker, an absolute clown of the highest order, perhaps….rather THE worst journo in the game today and honestly i don't care what he says because usually he is wrong and when he is right, he still finds a way to be wrong as is the case in this blog.

Full strength? we've had injuries all across the park through this period.

We have had as many or more injuries than Saints had players in the origin teams, any ways, his Sharks to win the comp this year tip is looking good, says it all really.

Have you noticed how he has only let 7 comments through?

What's the bet that 99% of the comments were pointing out the deficiencies in his argument?… the other 1% would be the doggies supports reiterating how much they want to boof their man Ennis.

This article has come at the perfect time for us. We are usually a side that reacts well to comments like this and after 4 straight wins, this is a great boost to keep us up for another week. I was stoked when i read this dribble.

what a troll, how many players were the Knights, Warriors, Dogs and Raiders missing due to origin? we had 2 byes during the origin period as well….. as for the full strength comment.... seen our injury list lately?

The Broncos will be missing a few players, we will benefit there so that's 1 game, but we potentially could be missing players of our own.

I agree with the gist of the article, but it's really about having a dig at the Tigers.

I totally agree. History has shown that positive publicity usually leads to a drop in form for us, this is great timing from the fool.
