Had a quick look at Lord Gus' presser this morning. Nothing of real substance.

- No decision made. Ciraldo a chance still
- 12 applications received overnight
- Won't say yes or no on any individual
- Suggested he hadn't been involved in discussions with "preferred candidate"
- Basically said Griffin wanted to be in charge and wouldn't listen to others

The bottom point alone would be alarming to a lot of potential coaches.

Agreed any coach would want to be in charge and not have to be forced to take "advice" from anyone.

I think you guys and most people commenting on this have it wrong.

What Gould is doing is modernising the game. Its the NFL model of coach and general manager, each has their own specific job and they both can specialise and give 100% focus to that job.

Rugby League moves very very slowly though so the media and others are writing it up as an issue.

It really is the way forward. Other clubs will follow suit before too long.

Not to that extent. Coach still calls all the shots etc

But the whole scenario of Griffen being punted/leaving centres around the fact that Gus ISN'T just content to focus solely on his role as GM: he wants input as to how the actual team is run, he wants to do a bit of coaching of the Panthers when he gets the urge to.
No way on Earth would he not want to interfere and have his say on goings-on around the playing squad, tactics etc.
That is the reality any potential Panthers coach will have to contend with.

Love it the possibility of having either of those cancers at the club should be enough for us to win by 3 figures

TBH the whole she-bang is a bit of a non-event IMO.
Why would Penrith be hellbent on securing the services of Trent Barrett, a bloke who has his Manly team massively in the running for the wooden spoon? It's not like Barrett has a pitiful squad at his fingertips at Manly yet they have been hopeless for the majority of 2018\. And Trent hardly set the world on fire as coach of the Dragons either.
Ditto John Cartwright, his coaching credentials are hardly steller.
And finally onto Ivan…...as much as he seems like a likeable bloke would we really be losing a massive asset if he decided to bail out on WT and link with Penrith? In all honesty?
We have the worst attack statistically in the NRL and are near certainties to miss the finals yet again. Also, on the plus side, if Ivan were to leave Packer and Matulino may have get-out clauses in their contracts if Ivan isn't coaching here so we may be able to use their supposedly exorbitant salaries on props with a bit more upside and consistency to their games. Hopefully McQueen would be in the same boat and some club in the ESL would be willing to take him off our books.
Even if Ivan leaves, we as a club will be winning on some fronts so I'm not too fussed either way if he stays or jumps.

What if what if what if the reason the club has been so quiet on the recruitment front the last few weeks is because we don’t have a coach for 2019 as of yet to do any recruiting…..

Yeah.I think you're onto something there. How good would it be if JT came back to rekindle old times with Robbie?

Well if Robbie is putting his foot down about playing on, we know there is only one coach brave enough to stand up to him

How exactly could Robbie "put the foot down about playing on"? He doesn't have a contract with us for next year so he can put his foot down all he wants, the ball is in the WT court as to whether he is here next year, not the other way round.

How can you believe any thing Gus says.

Gus never understood Clearys desire to be coached by his father and visa versa when he sacked Ivan.
He has just sacked a coach who has got them into three finals series - and then says the reason us cause he has lost the sheds
James Maloney said from his part that was not the case and no problem with Griffin.

This is all about retaining Nathan Cleary and the only way to do that was to get Ivan.

Just not sure now whether we inadvertently got caught in the middle of their power play with each other.
