Anyone believe that benji's injury may not be too serious?

if i remember correctly he injured his knee when running in to shut down a break and collided legs with the on coming player
wouldnt that mean its most likely just a cork?
the ice and strapping seems to support that theory as does the reaction to the injury.
wasnt too much concern and attention given to benji as has been the case with previous benji injuries. their also didnt seem to be much distress on marshalls face and he seemed to look fairly relaxed on the sideline.

all of this may be just wishful thinking from a tiger tragic but the more i look at it the more i belive it to be true 😛ray: 😛ray: 😛ray: 😛ray:

does anyone give us a chance of winning next week if we happen to make it to the next round against either the GoldCoast or Canberra? (if the dragons win as expected)

Even if Benji doesn't play, I think we have Lui to cover him. Lui was absolutely fantastic today.

The boys can still bounce back Benji Marshall
September 12, 2010

Last night was shattering. There's no doubt about that. But I'll be doing everything I can to be back next week, assuming St George Illawarra do us a favour today and beat Manly.

I don't know a lot about the injury. I don't know exactly what it is. All I know is that it hurts.

Our club doctor has told me I haven't damaged the medial ligament, which is a good thing because as soon as it happened I thought I had. I thought it was bad. But the doc told me it wasn't the medial, so I can only be hopeful.

There is apparently a lot of bruising around it, as well as fluid. I've just got to ice it up as much as I can and reassess tomorrow. I'll be doing everything I can to get it right.

I tried to play on and stayed out there for 10 minutes or so when we had no interchanges - I thought I'd have to stay out there. But in the end I just couldn't run on it.

It was so weird watching on from the sidelines. That's the only way I can describe it.

If I sound upbeat it's because I am.

Even after losing like that, we can bounce back. We had many chances to win it and even though it cost us, we can also take some positives out of that. I think it was a good performance by us. Some of our forwards had to stay out there for longer than we'd hoped and we defended for long periods.

The possession turned and a few bounces went their way. Everyone's obviously pretty disappointed. But for the time being, our season's not over yet. And while we're still in it, I still think we can be dangerous.

We played some good football, and I think it could have gone either way. As strange as it sounds, I still think we can take a lot from that game. I don't think we played that bad. We were all pretty shattered and down, but our coach Tim Sheens was positive afterwards.

He said it was one of the most courageous efforts he has seen from our club. Toddy Payten spoke after Tim did, and then a couple more guys followed. We had heaps of chances to put the game away, and unfortunately we couldn't.

Speaking of which, I'm not sure what was happening in the first half with that fight with Mitchell Pearce.

I'll keep my hands to myself in the future. A few things happened in the tackle, and then obviously they cancelled out the try to Gareth Ellis when there were a few punches thrown. You don't think about the possibility of those things in the heat of the moment.

That's football, things happen.

You don't go out there and plan to do things like that. The funny thing is, I like Pearcey. We had a little hug afterwards. Hopefully we can be around long enough to play them again - and get a different result.

Even if it's a cork it's a bad one. I hope if the Tigers do survive to next week that he can play, but I reckon he'll need ice and whatever rehab he can get for 24/7\. Time to move into the hyperbaric chamber for a week maybe.

Yep OX blood , yaks milk, HGH, Oxygenated tanks….whatever it takes...

off to the hyperbaric chamber for the week.
him being hopeful and the team positive is pleasing. methinks i need to get to bed. tomorrow is a new day.

boys seem confident and content with the result even after that heart breaking finish 😢

Yeah thats good to hear and so they hould.

It was a very gutsy effort.

On topic, I agree with the opening post. Marshall wasn't upset at all and the medical staff were not frantic at all.

If he can't play, it will no doubt leave a fair void. Lui was great once again. Farah I don't think trusted Lui enough when it was tight. Farah should have marshalled the forwards down the middle of the ground and gave good service for Lui to have his shot at goal.

the fact there was swelling and fluid in the knee is not good.

no ligament damage is great news, but to not be able to walk after a corck, and to still have fluid in the knee 24 hours + later means to play again in 6 days is a huge ask

:frowning:

Fluid on the knee is common. The joint is lined with bursae sacks and they fill very quickly with fluid to protect the joint once they take big impact.

It happened to me twice this footy season.

He copped the knock, kept running and then obviously the swelling got too much for the joint.

He will play

Hope your right,we sure do need all the troops we can muster.

if it wasnt a Final they would not be taking the steps to get him right before Friday night. The DOC got Richards back in a matter of 5 days in 05 with similar tactics they will be using on Marshall..

so far all reports it is good news… but still need to wait a little longer

Benji, rub some COMFREY into it

AB In the treatment of minor blunt injuries several topical drugs are known to have anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. They represent, however, two fundamentally different major pharmacological therapy approaches: the "chemical-synthetical" and the "phytotherapeutical" approach. The main objective of this trial (CODEC_2004) was to compare the efficacy and tolerability of an ointment of Comfrey extract (Extr. Rad. Symphyti) with that of a Diclofenac gel in the treatment of acute unilateral ankle sprain (distortion). In a single-blind, controlled, randomized, parallel-group, multicenter and confirmatory clinical trial outpatients with acute unilateral ankle sprains (n=164, mean age 29.0 years, 47.6% female) received either a 6 cm long ointment layer of Kytta-Salbe f (Comfrey extract) (n=82) or of Diclofenac gel containing 1.16 g of diclofenac diethylamine salt (n=82) for 7 +/- 1 days, four times a day. Primary variable was the area-under-the-curve (AUC) of the pain reaction to pressure on the injured area measured by a calibrated caliper (tonometer). Secondary variables were the circumference of the joint (swelling; figure-of-eight method), the individual spontaneous pain sensation at rest and at movement according to a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), the judgment of impaired movements of the injured joint by the method of "neutral-zero", consumption of rescue medication (paracetamol), as well as the global efficacy evaluation and the global assessment of tolerability (both by physician and patient, 4 ranks). In this study the primary variable was also to be validated prospectively. It was confirmatorily shown that Comfrey extract is non-inferior to diclofenac. The 95% confidence interval for the AUC (Comfrey extract minus Diclofenac gel) was 19.01-103.09h*N/cm2 and was completely above the margin of non-inferiority. Moreover, the results of the primary and secondary variables indicate that Comfrey extract may be superior to Diclofenac gel.

MARSHALL CONFIDENT OF TAKING ON RAIDERS

Wests Tigers five-eighth Benji Marshall is confident he can overcome a knee injury and take on the Canberra Raiders in the sudden death semi-final at Canberra Stadium this Friday night.
>
Marshall left the field in the 75th minute after suffering a knee injury in the loss to the Sydney Roosters on Saturday night. A scan taken after the match showed the medial was still intact. Marshall did not take part in the team’s light games session this morning.
>
“I feel alright. I’ve had a few sleepless nights just trying to ice up and do everything I can to be right,’’ Marshall said.
>
“I am reasonably confident and it is just a matter of how much work I put into it is what I am going to get out of it. It is all about recovery at the moment.
>
“There is a premiership at stake and I will do everything I can. If it hurts I am going to have to go through a bit of pain.
>
“I will know more tomorrow or Wednesday but going on the last couple of days, it looks promising.
>
“I am sure the coach will give me every opportunity p to game day. Even if I can’t train this week, he has got enough faith in me to know that I will still be able to do the job.
>
“If I think I will be right game day, I will play.”
