Apple iPod question

Well I have finally followed the pack and purchased an Apple iPod.

I have transferred a lot of my CDs on to iTunes and then synced on to the iPod.

Problem is now that my wife and I fight over use of the iPod.

I want to buy another MP3 player but something cheaper than Apple.

If I buy a non-Apple brand, can I use iTunes to load up the new MP3, or does it only recognise Apple?

Or if I get another Apple, can I manage both iPods off iTunes or does it only recognise one, and if I purchase a song online, can I transfer it to both iPods or only one?

Thanks

Most MP3 players come with their own proprietary software, so if you buy non-apple (and personally I would because Apple have one of the worst sounding MP3 players on the market) don't expect iTunes to recognise it. I'm going to be buying a new MP3 player myself pretty soon. I'll be buying either a Cowon S9 or i9\. Cowon make the best sounding MP3 players and have fully adjustable EQs etc, which is what I'm after, plus they support FLAC so I can transfer CDs without any loss of quality in the sound.

If you get another iPod then iTunes should not have any dramas recognising it.

I'll try and answer as best I can.

I definitely know you CAN manage two iPods off the same iTunes. I do it with my sister's iPod and my own.

In regards to the other non-Apple mp3 player -
most mp3 players come with their own software or alternatively use Windows Media Player.
each mp3 player however is different in terms of how the user is meant to upload the music onto the device. best way is to check with the staff instore.

Also, once you've purchased a song online, you now own that file and can move it round as you would any other music file, image file, word document etc, so the purchased song will go into your itunes, but it will also be as a file in your music folder wherever itunes stores all your music, which is most likely My Documents > My Music > iTunes Library.

Otherwise if you have any more detailed questions, there's the giant Apple store on George St or Next Byte who are Apple dealers throughout Sydney.
