Are Cleary and Taylor mates?

I just noticed that Cleary played two seasons with Taylor at North Sydney and have noticed Taylor has spoken highly of Ivan since his dismissal and Ivan certainly has not been slating Taylor (unlike how Taylor spoke of Potter). I wonder if they are mates? Anyone know what their relationship is like? If they have a good relationship I can only imagine it being helpful for Cleary to be able to speak to Taylor and get a "handover" of sorts.

When did Taylor slate Potter?

You mean at private fan forums closed to the media?

There was certainly no slating of Potter by Taylor in public.

Very sad that fans want coaches to open and frank and when they do they smashed for it. No wonder the club doesn't run those forums anymore.

Maybe slated is a strong word. But he certainly didn't pull punches in press conferences when he signed. He was very strong worded about where Potter had been going wrong and how he was going to fix it. I recall it leaving a sour taste in my mouth. Not sure what you're referring to about the private forums.

He never mentioned Potter. He talked about our poor defensive structure. This was said in fan forums and reported on it. From memory, and I could be wrong, it was never said in public press conferences.

From memory he noted that under Sheens our defensive structure was too soft down the middle and under Potter it was too weak out wide. Once again, I don't believe he ever named Potter. Clearly he was right. He wasn't saying anything my 5 year old daughter doesn't know. Obviously, he couldn't fix the problems out wide either.

You seem to be quite a big Taylor fan. Apologies if I offended you.

Yep I am as would anybody who has met the bloke. One of the most decent guys involved in rugby league.

Am I glad he is gone? Yes. For whatever reason, it wasn't working. But to try and tarnish his reputation is poor given the decency of the guy.

Im not offended but I will defend the guy from this kind of stuff.

I simply read it as I saw it and haven't wavered since he made the comments. If I was Potter I would have been quite disappointed in the way his tenure was spoken of by Taylor. I don't have anything against Taylor, nor any agenda. I am a faceless internet person. Anyway, moving on.

hmm do they like each other's photos on fb?

Why must everyone on the internet insist on posting sarcastic comments everywhere?

Reason #1\. People are bored.
Reason #2\. Depending on your sense of humour, people find it funny.
Reason #3\. They don't get sarcasm and are actually just asking a question.

If you think that is trolling the internet is not for you..stick to puppies…

As for the question who knows but the respect they showed each other on both the appointment and sacking shows they are classy professional guys...

My recollection of JT's reflections on what needed fixing is that he only responded to media questions and never mentioned any names. He did, however, point out the obvious and said that our defence had been poor and that our S&C needed improving. Still, that's now history and fast forwarding to today, I'm sure Cleary would also identify our defence as a weakness but as far as I know he hasn't yet been asked the question, or maybe it has just been lost in the noise of contract speculation.

I note here that MacDougall, you have said that "slating" may be too strong a word and I agree with that but I'm just trying to provide a little bit of clarity.

There has been a lot of BS perpetuated on here by a select few about JT in regards to him and previous coaches, never ever have I seen anyone provide a link for this BS.
Lke chinese whispers, this has grown into something that its not
While I was never a fan ( or foe) of JTs, the crap that many on here posted about him is unacceptable and unfair…idiots with agendas then paint those defending him against this garbage as supporters and the other childish names bandied about
As for JT & Clearly, probably acquaintances

I would think most coaches would have a mutal respect for one another. Its a tough job and they all face similar challenges in varying degrees.
Same with players - obvious at the end of each game when they all have the back slaps and chats win lose or draw.
The fans on the other hand hate without fear, favour, or fact evident on here in some form most days.
