Are Fifita and Gibbs off to the Sharks?

Its an interesting connundrum on comings and goings.

I rate Groat a better prospect that Fifita who seems to be maturing as a prop at a faster rate but who else the club brings in also plays a major part in whether a successful outcome is in the offing for this move.

Losing Gibbs and Payten in the same year would be a huge blow but considering how busted Bryce is playing (injuries) I could never begrudge him earning as much as possible elsewhere.

Hard to judge anything until we know who is coming in etc though

Groat and Begovich, not to mention Roqica - there is plenty of talent there looking for opportunities.

My only issue Helmesy with Groat , Begovich and Roqica is they are still yet to be proven in NRL . The step up is very big and their are no guarantees they will make it at NRL level . If they don't and we get injuries where does that leave us . And before you say we take that risk with everyone, Since 2006 we have had as many injuries as any other squad in the NRL .I personally think the money spent getting Blair would be better off spent getting a top notch fullback .

I'm sure these guys are talented but it means nothing until they've played regular first grade.

Fifita has, and has done it very well.

Guys it may be out of the clubs hands whether Fifita stays or goes. If the Sharks have offered him $350k a year and we have offered $250k (which is probably too much at this stage) then he is going to go. It will be a massive loss but we can't really stop it.

We all have opinions on certain players but I would happily trade Gibbs and Fulton for Blair. Sure they are Wests juniors etc but that counts for nothing. I have been watching Blair closely since we've been linked to him and he is awesome and still relatively young. It's a no brainer for me.

You'd think the club would've learnt from the last time they threw half their salary cap at a front rower to try win a premiership…idjits!

If fifita did take his extenison two weeks ago and is negoitaitong for more coin or not, but im sorry I wouldbt want a player showing that kind of disrespcet to the club, teammates and fans. If you have signed a contrct stick with it, i know its a business today but if you sign then change your mind I dont car ehow good you are…...CYA have fun at a crumbling club!

but we shoulld judge until all is out tbh....interesting times

If this rumor is in fact true, and I think it may its not the end of the world. Fifita could be a really good forward in a few years but so could a few others with the same time and energy invested in them,

The bottom line the club has to free some space for one or two new players next year and if you think we dont need some new blood you have not been to the games over the past few months!! Its not as easy as saying I will flick player A and keep player B, their has to be demand for a player before you can release them so it only stands to reason we were going to loose a good player or two. What your banking on is that the new players introduced to the club plus your junior talent will out weigh the players you release.

Sheens gets my vote 100% if in fact he is trying to lift this club to another level and I have no reason to doubt this

AARON WOODS RE-SIGNS FOR THREE MORE YEARS
20/05/2011 3:04:36 PM Wests Tigers is pleased to announce the re-signing of exciting young prop Aaron Woods for a further three seasons.

The new deal will keep the 20-year-old at the Club until the end of the 2014 season.

A Balmain junior, Woods has risen through the Wests Tigers development program culminating in him making his NRL debut in Round One this season against the Bulldogs. He has since played seven first grade games and was a member of the NSW Emerging Blues squad selected earlier this year.

Woods said that he’s enjoyed his quick rise to the top grade.

“I feel very privileged to be playing first grade and being surrounded by all of these great players. Being a local junior I’m extremely proud to be now playing for the elite squad, it’s a dream come true really,'' Woods said.

“It’s also great that I’ll be at the Club for a further three seasons but for now I just want to concentrate on doing my job for the team and helping them to win games."

Another piece of good news for Wests Tigers is the extension given to prop Andrew Fifita following an agreement between Andrew and the Club to exercise an option in his current contract for the 2012 season.

Fifita, 21, has been a revelation for Wests Tigers since making his NRL debut in Round Two last year after joining the Club from Griffith Waratahs. Like Woods, he too was a member of the NSW Emerging Blues squad.

His mobility, hard work and offloads have seem him develop into a regular member of the Wests Tigers forward pack. Fifita has played 31 NRL matches for Wests Tigers and represented Tonga last year.

“I’m enjoying my footy here at Wests Tigers and I’m learning every day. We have a good squad here so it is exciting to know that I will be apart of that for a while yet,'' Fifita said.

Wests Tigers Chief Executive Stephen Humphreys said that it was important to secure Woods and Fifita for a longer period, especially after both players progression through the Club’s development system.

“Aaron and Andrew are showing maturity beyond their years and are perfect examples of the depth we now have throughout our player roster,” Humphreys said.

“They’ve both had a lot more game time this year which will only benefit their development and the Club in the long run."

Woods and Fifita spearheaded the Wests Tigers pack in reaching the 2009 U20s grand final.

IMO we are better off losing Fifita & Gibbs than say losing Woods & Dwyer or Woods & Groat…

As I rate Woods & for that matter Groat higher than Fifita as they are more consistant & less erratic.

I get that the club is under salary cap pressure and the attraction to sign a marquee player (Blair). The most concerning aspect of the loss of Gibbs, Fulton and Payten due to retirement is the balance of the team. With the exception of Ellis, we are losing the three best defenders in the team. They are all very good one-on-one defenders and I defy anyone to provide an example to better Gibbs' front on one-on-one tackling technique. The remaining forwards are not defence orientated and are very young and still learning.

Everybody has a role to play in a team - who will be the ones to stand up and become our defensive leaders? I would be much more comfortable losing players who can be easily replaced as we have an abundance of them.

Why dont we get rid of Lui then
Woods cause he dropped the ball to many times on Monday
Heigno cause he gives away to many Penalties

didnt see you saying this when Benji did the shoulders and his defence was shot..

Your basing the missed tackles of one or two ocasions..
Show me the Missed tackle stats from the last 12 rounds and if Moltz is at the top of the list ill zip it

and lastly this isnt about Moltz.. its about the forwards who are/may be leaving and the signing of another..

no use being able to defend when you can only play 50-60% of the season

While I take your point T-Rexx there is a still a requirement for balance and we will need a defensive spine - unless we intend to buy this is in, who in the current roster can play that role?

A week ago this RLW mole said about Cronulla:

_They will sign another 5 or so players… but nothing to write home about sadly..._

Oh and this too on June 1:

_You are going to look very silly when Sharks announce Robson signing in 24 hours, TripleM... Mole always knows..._

Didn't happen... He also mis-spelt Jack Reed's name and talks dribble most of the time on twitter.
