ARE WE ON THE NOSE

Its not only marquee players we struggle to sign, its also your run of the mill meat and potato style player like Kennedy from the chooks. It will be interesting with Mayer now the man if we become a more desirable destination for players who are off contract. If all the hype about Brooks and Moses comes to fruition we are going to have one hell of a backline in two years time.As I said in the original post,is their dis trust out their with the player managers???

My preference is to rebuild WT with local talent like: Moses, Brooks, Rudolph, Akauola, Fine, Brown, Lowett, Paasi, Graham, Luani, Szczudlo etc.

I am against signing of expensive players, if it means that our young players will be lost..

For instance, signing someone like CC or JT means we will lose Brooks and Moses.

Go Tigers

We seem to be on the nose with forwards. The only forwards we seem to be able to buy are blokes that are on the fringe of nrl/bench players and thus come to the tigers to cement a first grade spot/get more game time. This excludes Blair who we paid a truck load for, and Ellis who wanted to test himself in Australia.

I believe there is a perception out there that coming to the tigers would be detrimental to an established forward's career. Most likely due to the fact that tigers have never really had a dominating forward pack

We could of had Thurston , But we decided he was too small

Great call that was

not the only ones who knocked him back. Half a dozen scouts went to look at him and all thought he was not going to make it, even the doggies were not overly bullish on him. It happens.

Wests Tigers are giving their young talent a chance to suceed. I believe that this will encourage more talented youngsters to join the team.

They hardly classify as high profile signings. Most league fans couldn't have told you who Ellis was and Tuqiri was a code hoping old man trying to finish his career somewhere by the time we got him.

Ellis had a decent reputation and was a fantastic signing for us but a big name Marquee he was not.

Yeah similar to those other nuffys like Eleery Hanley and Gary Schofield…......... :crazy

Did i call him a Nuffy? I did nothing but praise him. But what i said is true, most League fans didn't have a clue who he was when he came across.

This conversation is about marquee signings like Falau of thurston or Smith & the like, which Ellis wasn't and isn't one of.

And as good a footballer as he was, he shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Hanley or Schofield.

I agree with Majere.
Blair is the closest thing we have had to a marquee signing for many years. I follow the ESL and loved the Ellis signing when it occurred but you need to realize that Ellis made a much greater impact here than expected and was in no way a marquee signing at the time. If you think that Ellis was as highly anticipated as Schofield or Hanley then you aren't being very honest.
The question is if we are able to attract marquee players and if we are willing to meet the wage demands that top players have.

Whether or not you want them here is quite another thing altogether. Most fans on here would sternly object to a Folau or Thurston or even Inglis signing. Heck, there were heaps of people on here who hoped to hell that we were not going for Cronk when he was allegedly on the market. I think the one thing that we can all agree on is that we will never all agree on any one signing, but it would be nice to be a major attraction in the player market anyway.
