I'm surprised by how crap people view robbie Ross. Nsw and Australia rep but matt Sears is rated higher by some?

That's the thing...it swings and turnsthough..

Hodgo is a good example for this I love him in my top 5 players of all time but his time in the 90's was spent mostly on the wing with Leedsy at FB but it's Hodgo..2000's different story

Not to sound bias cos Lockyer was mine. But how some had Hodgson in front of him is beyond me.

He was as a good a fullback as 5/8 ...he will be an Immortal at some stage imo

This is my first rodeo and Im not sure how the etiquette of this stuff works.

I have to go and do some family stuff in about half hour and wont be back online until the morning. How does that screw up the voting system?

I remember the Norths/Newcastle prelim in 97. Seers run down by Darren Albert in one of the best try savers you’ll ever see. Turned the game and Newcastle went on to win the premiership.

Always felt he was slightly better at fullback. I'd make him an immortal just for his test debut.

Seersy was a great fullback, awesome cover defender with a tonne of ticker under the high-ball as well. Not to mention his pace and support play were strong points for him at the Bears. Would of rated him a lot higher if not for the classy players in the voting with him.

Norths had a great side back then. Just couldn’t kick in for a grand final

Should of in 94 when Lomax was sent...only for Larsen to go 20 min later. That was a seriously good side that year.

Nice mate! Definately worth a watch, was a beaut game apart from the final result.
Those daytime matches of back then had so much more mystique about them than night matches for me, not sure why.

So much better daytime finals matches. Sun out just looks better.

Was testing the memory bank trying to remember what players sort of were out-and-out fullbacks as opposed to part-timers.
Brasher, Blake and Shearer were great players but couldn't remember how long they were actual fullbacks instead of playing centre, 5/8 and wing respectively.
Great thread though, very interesting and a great trip down memory lane.


At Balmain Brasher was an out & fullback, only playing centre in his younger days because Garry Jack was there

What year did Jack retire? 92/93 or so?
Was trying to remember where Brasher played for NSW as well.

Garry Jacks last game was for the Sydney Tigers in (I think) 95. He came back, basically as a favour after a stint in England and he was old and buggered but was still putting in and had more ability than the rest of that team that year. I remember sitting at our "home" ground at Parra Stadium in (I think) his first game back and he was a lot heavier and slower but whoever we played got an intercept on their own line and Jack ran him down and tackled him a metre short of the tryline. It was late in the game and he was out on his feet and it was one of teh gutsiest things Ive seen. Needless to say most of the rest of the team didnt bother running back and the opposition scored next play.
