Anyone been watching the Socceroos in the Asian Cup? We just beat Iraq (the team that won the last Asian Cup) 1-0\. We scored a goal right at the end of extra time. Now we are in the final 4\. I think they said it's the furthest Australia has ever gone in the Asian Cup. We play Uzbekistan next.

South Korea Vs. Iran is just starting now live on Fox Sports 3\. I am hoping South Korea win.

It is the furthest because we have only played it once before and lost to Japan in penalties in the quarter-finals.

It was a great header by Kewell. Aussies missed their chances and Schwarzer saved any of Iraqs. It looked destined for penalties before Kewell headed home that great McKay cross.

They now play Uzbekistan in the semis. The Uzbeks have been scoring well but I don't think they have played a defence as good as Australia's yet. We should get through if we finish off a chance or two.

Well it's good that we are part of asia now in the soccer. I didn't really like it how we had to beat a South American nation to make the World Cup.

We should beat Uzbekistan a bit more easily than we beat Iraq. The final will be a tough game if we make it though (Korea and Japan are both good sides). Our defence has been very good so far, but our attack has been pretty ordinary, creating plenty of chances but not finishing them off. If we can improve our finishing, we should win this tournament.

Its really confusing the way we're playing. I reckon Jedinak and Valeri are doing a fantastic job which is exciting to see, they seem to gel in that midfield and being 2 of the younger generation its a good sign for Brazil and beyond.

They work the ball up well but their finishing is poor considering the quality of the build up. It was a terrific ball from McKay last night to Kewell, but even then, they wasted so many more chances (Jedinak essentially defending the Iraq goal from Sasa's shot was shocking).

I think we can take Uzbekistan, we've handled them before and I'm alot more confident against them then I was against Iraq. A final against Japan or Korea though….wow. HUGE game for Australian football.

I just wonder if anyone will start caring, I feel like no1 is talking about it at all. 6 replies to a topic started today about a tournament that, if we win, is on par with Aloisi's penalty? Weird.

How many countries from Asia do they allow into the World Cup? Is it 4?

The winner from Oceania now plays the 5th ranked Asian team for a spot in the World Cup. The 5th place South American side now plays a side from CONCAF (North & Central America) to qualify.

wow we beat the uzbeks 6 - 0\. wasnt expectin that. japan beat south korea in penalty shootout so we now play the japanese in the final

I'd rather play the Japanese than South Korea. Apart from Australia, I rate South Korea as the next best team in the Asian confederation. The Japanese can go missing in the big games.

the asian cup final between aust and japan starts live on foxsports 1 tonight at 1.30am. who's going to watch it? they have a pre-game show on now.

I'm awake Alien. It's not the World Cup but it will be pretty special to win it. Predicting a 2-1 to the roos but depends on the Japanese rising to the occaision.

Hmmm at the moment they are showing a replay of the 3rd Vs 4th play-off game between Uzbekistan and South Korea.

yeah im up watching this. I took a snooze before the last one against uzbeckistan, then woken up for it, and was glad i did.

reminded me of tigers/bulldogs from 2005 when the tigers were up about 40-2 at half time.

Hoping Matty McKay has another blinder. That will really stick it up Pim Verbeek for saying the A-League players aren't of international standard.

Do they have the Asian Cup once every 4 years?

Yes, Australia will be hosting the next one in 2015\. Hopefully we put on a much better show than Qatar. Their marketing and general apathy for football has been shameful.
