Assorted Thoughts

Brett Stewart is a one trick pony, fails in the most essential area ie The kick return. Yes he's fast, yes he has good instinct in support, but dont think he beat a defender one on one in the entire series

Bird looked hyped, ran hard, seemed full of aggression, but made only 19 tackles. Thats poor for a back rower

Creagh's input was negligible

How did Tony Williams make this squad?

Nate Myles caused some damage with his head. In Farah's case, no doubt it was intentional

Carney's defence was appalling

I take my hat off to Farah yet again. knocked senseless, makes 54 tackles and seemed the only creative mind in the squad. What a player, fast approaching Elias status

For me the biggest issue is halfback. Mitchell Pearce is not up to the job. Tony Williams at least had an impact and apart from his bone-headed decision to run too close to the touchline from the kick off he was okay. Carney at least had an impact in attack. Agree about Creagh and B Stewart although in the latter's case the other options are limited,

I thought Mullen showed great promise in his brief SOO career, couldn't understand why he was seemingly flung on the scrap heap? Injury? He looks a natural with the ball in hand and kicks very well, two things Pearce just doesn't look comfortable with

Yeah I think they seriously need to reconsider Stewart…......and just dump Creagh and Pearce outright.

I think they're praying that one of the Reynolds (Adam or Josh) keep improving.

Dare I say that the Canterbury kiddy looks 'made for Origin'. He has a lot of attributes including his impression of someone having a major seizure

Pearce always outplays Mullen in City-Country, but a dud on Origin. Also is playing for dud Newcastle. Wallace or maybe Reynolds.

i think brett stewart will be cut next year for dugan. he should be NSW's long term fullback.

id stick with pearce until someone a lot better comes along. pearce is better than mullen (mullen's predominantly a 5/8 anyway, as is josh reynolds), adam reynolds doesn't look as though he'll be any better than pearce at this stage, and wallace is about the same as pearce (but we picked pearce so there's no use in swapping the two now).

they're my thoughts anyway

I really think NSW need to keep as much of this team together as possible. They had QLD's measure this year and they will only improve the more they play together.

Pearce is definitely not the best halfback to represent his state, but I still think he is the best option to play with both Carney and Farah. Most of the NSW halfbacks running around at the moment are less talented or only on a par with Pearce anyway - there is no standout, no Andrew Johns or Ricky Stuart who can really take control of a game. Wallace could be another option, but he's still no standout. I think we need to give both Carney and Pearce time to grow into the roles. Lining up against, firstly, Lockyer and Thurston and now Thurston and Cronk would make any opposition halves combo look average.

From this year's team I would only drop Creagh (he has never been effective at Origin level) and Scott and replace them next year with Woods and G. Stewart or Sims - injuries and availability permitting. With the way NSW performed this year against a 'once in a generation' QLD team, the biggest mistake that the selectors could make would be to make too many changes to this side. QLD have been successful because they persisted with the nucleus of their team for many years - NSW need to do the same. Now they've finally found a team capable of taking a series, they need to stick with them.

And yes, the Morris boys have been a revelation this year - good to see!

The Morris boys played very well. Would not mind seeing one or either in Tigers colours.

Yeah I've been critical of them in the past at SOO level but they really stood up. Was it Josh who ran down GI to save a try in the 2nd half? That was a massive play and could have been a game winner.

poor kicking game , many simple mistakes at crucial stages , a few passengers (Pearce & Creagh) and only got beat by a dodgy try decision

Was Josh with assists from Hayne, Brett and the goal post. One of the best try savers you will see. His catch and put down for the last try was amazing as well.
