Standing applause from happy with their choice of Rose Batty as our new Australian of the Year

Anyone who doesn't remember who she is , she was the Mother of the little boy who's dad killed him at cricket training

Fantastic message to be sending out in my opinion

Congrats on the award , but no doubts she would exchange a billion of these to have her son back

I think there is in Australia too much emphasis on the importance of famous sports people compared the unsung hero in the streets.

No Southern, I believe it's good for people to stand up for that, so that's not the reason.

Think about it, "Australian on the year", what did Adam Goods do to deserve this accolade over every other Australian?

And he didn't even appreciate the honour.

Adam has been a shining leader for indigenous australians for 15 years. He then has courage to call out disgusting behaviour that continues to occur in sporting arenas. Then when the media is lynching a young girl for doing what many others do, Adam had the courage to support her.

Hasnt been a better recipient in my lifetime, IMO.

Love Adam Goodes as a player and even more so as a person, a great Role Model. Was it Australian of the year worthy?Dont think so but I still admire the guy.If Luke Brooks gets called "whitey" by a black girl in the crowd does he go on to win Australian of the year probably not.But yes Adam Goodes has done great work in the indigenous community over a long period of time also. Its weird though had that girl not screamed that racist thing out hes not Australian of the year.Weird isnt it.

Fair enough.

I think he was a poor choice but that was in hindsight. I thought he carried himself poorly after receiving the award.

Agree with a post above about sporting people getting it too much.

The ironic thing is had I won it I would rather congratulate over a thai meal than a xxxx and I would go home to celebrate with the lebanese girl I live with rather than a 1000 drunks at cronulla beach(not that theres anything wrong with that). And then maybe had a chinese tea at night as I watched a world movie.but just dont crap on the anzacs or this country   or I will throw the chinese tea in your face.

What did he do after receiving the award? Didnt he use the position to speak up for things that he believes in? Isnt that we want our Australian of the Year to do?
