WESTS Tigers assistant coaches Royce Simmons and Steve Georgallis had already decided to quit the club before yesterday's announcement that three support staff would be cut at the end of this season.

With head coach Mick Potter also expected to be shown the door, the struggling joint venture is in the midst of another destabilising clean-out. While CEO Grant Mayer declined to identify the axed support staff to senior players yesterday, The Daily Telegraph can confirm Simmons and Georgallis will be working elsewhere in 2014.

Simmons has already negotiated a return to Penrith, the club he led to a maiden premiership in 1991, in a marketing role. Georgallis advised club officials six weeks ago that he would not continue beyond this year, preferring to pursue a head coaching role in the NRL or the UK Super League.

Eleven football department staff are off contract this year, with eight likely to stay. Veteran trainer Andrew Leeds is rumoured to be the other to leave.

"The board and management of the Wests Tigers are committed to providing our members, corporate and community partners, and fans the most competitive team both on and off the field," a Tigers statement said.

Potter looking to turn tide against ParramattaWests Tigers coach Mick Potter is confident he will still be in charge next year. Potter needs to get results and fast beginning with Parramatta tomorrow night who welcome back Jarryd Hayne for the battle to avoid the Wooden Spoon.

"With this in mind, the club has decided not to extend the contract of three existing members of our support staff for 2014\. For avoidance of doubt, these decisions are not performance-based and these individuals involved have been informed."

Shortly after the statement was released, Mayer addressed senior players about the changes. He did not name the three staff and was also noncommittal about Potter's future. As revealed by The Daily Telegraph yesterday, Potter has lost the support of many players because of his communication style.

With a year remaining on his contract, the rookie coach does enjoy some support on a divided board that must vote unanimously to sack him. There is a reluctance to pay out another coach, with predecessor Tim Sheens is still drawing more than $8000 per month to do nothing.
