does anyone know much about these two players listed as off contract props ,could be cheap handy backups

Shannon Boyd 123 kg 193 cm canberra

Sione Kite 115 kg 195 cm widnes vikings born canterbury nsw

also did a club pick up Shane Sackleton he is 106 kg second row / prop with experience

Yeah someone had told me he had resigned with the Raiders and I checked the Raiders 2013 squad and his profile 's there so unfortunately you can write Boyd off
 
The guys we have as back ups already (Buchannen, Sue, Fotuakia, Groat & Avamasange my spelling of polynesian names is hopeless) are as good as Boyd, Sione Kite, Moses Masoe etc that are being suggested.
We need Woods and Galloway to stay fit for at least for dozen or so rounds so we get some NRL experience into these young props (which ever they go with) before they are asked to do too much.
 
Im interested to know why James Gavet got sacked though? he will be a good pick up if true? just hope hes not a loose cannon?
 
rumours on google about drinking and fighting. But there's also rumours on google that elvis is alive and we didn;t actually land on the moon.
 
Thought things were going to change, we still buying other clubs rejects no ones heard of…..hope (if true) he goes well for us....probably a reggie benchie mainly

Make no mistake, this guy IS NOT A REJECT. As far as Des was concerned he was the next big thing and was let go by Brian 'Bluey' McLennan despite some public disdain in NZ at that decision - and we all know how bad the Warriors did this year - Krisnan Inu being the other who was released by that franchise. He (Gavet) was much sought after by numerous clubs when let go by the Warriors late 2011 and he opted for Canterbury primarily because of their set up AND because Jimmy Dimmock was Head Coach at the time - having Des coming across in 2013 was a bonus but not the overriding decision (selective journalism sells!).

This year, frustration due to recurring injury and a delayed debut (against Broncos) amongst other things led to amicable 'release' between both parties. Off field matters (punctuality and wearing the right gear) didn't help so Dogs were left with little choice - HOWEVER he's definitely ready to rectify with Wests Tigers.

Freakishly strong for someone who doesn't appear that big (by prop standards) and has footwork and ball skills to boot! If Potter can get the best out of him might be one of the surprises of the NRL. Just hoping we get to see him in first grade sooner rather than later.

Wests Tigers is pleased to announce the signing of exciting young prop James Gavet for the 2013 season.

Born in New Zealand, the 23-year-old hard running forward made his NRL debut for Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs against the Brisbane Broncos in round 23 this season.

He previously came through the ranks of the Warriors, having played in their NYC and NSW Cup teams. Gavet was named the NSW Cup Prop of the Year in 2011.

“James is a very mobile prop/second-rower with a good offload and good skills. He is looking to cement a first grade spot,’’ said Wests Tigers Recruitment Manager Warren McDonnell.

“He will add plenty of depth to our forward pack. James is in his first week of training at Wests Tigers and has already impressed NRL Coach Mick Potter with his skills and fitness.”
