Rest In Peace
Dave Bolton
1969 Balmain Tigers half-back and Churchill Medal winner in 1969 grand final

Condolences to his family and friends. RIP. One of the best.

Outstanding player. One of a great run of halves and 5/8ths the Pommies produced.

David provided many great memories on the field. He was both skilfull and tough when to be a success you had to both if you played in the halves and in those days England matched Australia on the field unlike now.
R.I.P,a great player

One of the really good Poms to play over here.
Good memories of him playing with the Tigers in the late 60's
Rest in Peace mate.

One of the truly great English halves to play the game.

Played some great games for Balmain and some sizzlers for the Poms.

Remember one game at the SCG where he ran backwards for 25 yards (then) in his own half, with the crowd laughing at him. He scored under the posts. Wasn't so many laughing after he did this.

Great player, good bloke, you will be missed Dave. R.I.P.

I have lived in Balmain for the last 3 years after spending my life in the western suburbs.People who say that there no Wests Tigers supporters in the area are completely wrong. All my neighbours follow the Tigers and go regularly to games. On game day at Leichhardt ,Darling St is lined with people and all the pubs are packed. Its a great atmosphere and before i moved here i wouldnt have believed it.To the disbelievers try it some time and you will be surprised.

Yep , it extends all the way into Ryde , and as far down as west Ryde , and Strathfield . That whole area is wests tigers . About 10 years ago , it became a “upper class hipster , bogan” thing to go to Leichhardt and watch the footy . When I lived in the area just after this , the love for the tigers was infectious , and you could go to any pub , in gladesville , Ryde , west Ryde , concord , and realise they’re tigers areas .
To me it’s like if Newtown were an NRL club , and wasn’t just a hipster thing , but had real money behind it .

It extends all the way to Spurway Street Ermington - All WT supporters except for a few idiots that think they are in the Parramatta area because they pay their rates to that council.

It's area historically goes as far as Rydalmere station, there was an Ermington-Rydalmere JRL.

As far as the name of the new club goes, it is not surprising it is being referred to as Balmain Leagues in it's initial stages, as all legal action, agreements and negotiations for so many years were from Balmain Leagues, and the litigation centered on that club returning to it's original sight. I think the naming issue is a non issue for Wests Ashfield at the moment, they will be just glad it's going ahead.

I think you've forgotten dundas which is further west, if you're Talkin about balmain catchment area that is

Balmain Leagues Club to remain an eyesore on Victoria Road for at least another seven years. The site will be a used as a dirt dump.

Thanks Mike.

I thought it would be demolished if they are going to use it as a dive site. That was half of the benefit to it being acquired, that the old club would be demolished and it would handed back as a hole, saving them extensive excavating when eventually building the establishment.

Ironic (isnt it?) that the State Govt probably killed the project off initially by scrapping the Metro and now they are killing off the resurrection with the tunnel dive site. Someone might even consider they have it in for us......

Labor killed it originally and liberals finishing it off

They’ll have to change the banner from coming soon to see you in seven years.

Was always going to happen, the council only got on board after the state government announced plans to acquire the site for the dive site.

Disgraceful!!!!!

The tunnel is a short sighted expensive waste of space.

If they're serious about building the tunnel they'll build it from drummoyne to north sydney (or wherever). It takes an hour to go from the gladesville bridge to the iron cove bridge city bound on victoria rd in peak hour. This tunnel will do nothing to ease that logjam. And hence the delay to get to enter this 2nd harbour tunnel will remain. Who's queuing up for an hour to get to this tunnel?

Geez I'm glad I left Sydney.
