I have lived in Balmain for the last 3 years after spending my life in the western suburbs.People who say that there no Wests Tigers supporters in the area are completely wrong. All my neighbours follow the Tigers and go regularly to games. On game day at Leichhardt ,Darling St is lined with people and all the pubs are packed. Its a great atmosphere and before i moved here i wouldnt have believed it.To the disbelievers try it some time and you will be surprised.
Yep , it extends all the way into Ryde , and as far down as west Ryde , and Strathfield . That whole area is wests tigers . About 10 years ago , it became a “upper class hipster , bogan” thing to go to Leichhardt and watch the footy . When I lived in the area just after this , the love for the tigers was infectious , and you could go to any pub , in gladesville , Ryde , west Ryde , concord , and realise they’re tigers areas .
To me it’s like if Newtown were an NRL club , and wasn’t just a hipster thing , but had real money behind it .
It extends all the way to Spurway Street Ermington - All WT supporters except for a few idiots that think they are in the Parramatta area because they pay their rates to that council.
It's area historically goes as far as Rydalmere station, there was an Ermington-Rydalmere JRL.
As far as the name of the new club goes, it is not surprising it is being referred to as Balmain Leagues in it's initial stages, as all legal action, agreements and negotiations for so many years were from Balmain Leagues, and the litigation centered on that club returning to it's original sight. I think the naming issue is a non issue for Wests Ashfield at the moment, they will be just glad it's going ahead.
