A spokesman for Seven said the delay was necessary to avoid missing any race action.

The race was obviously more action-packed then the network expected.

The spokesman said the fact the safety car was not needed very much was one of the factors to blame for the delay. When safety cars are used on the track, slowing down the racing, it offers the opportunity for the network to switch to showing ads.

"The closeness of the race, the reduced number of safety cars in today's race, advertising commitments and our desire that viewers not miss a single moment of the race led us to time-shift our coverage," the spokesman told The Daily Telegraph.
