Bathurst 1000

  • Craig Lowndes on "learning curve" at The Bend with Team 18
  • Lowndes to make first non-Triple Eight start at Bathurst since 2004
  • Seven-time Bathurst winner paired with rookie Bayley Hall
Even after all these years, nearly 700 Supercars and more than 30 Bathurst appearances, Craig Lowndes was on a learning curve in his first race back in 2026.

Lowndes returns to the Mountain, this time with Team 18 and rookie Bayley Hall, following a storied two-decade run with Triple Eight that produced six of his seven Bathurst wins.
The 2026 race marks 30 years since Lowndes won with Greg Murphy and the Holden Racing Team. He had to wait 10 years to win again, but added five more in the next decade.
The way the race unfolded at The Bend, Lowndes — now 52 — got plenty of valuable track time, which will prove even more valuable come the weekend as he sinks his teeth into Bathurst appearance No. 33, which takes him past Peter Brock.

“This is always the most exciting part of the season for me,” Lowndes said.
"I’ve always loved Bathurst, hence why I keep coming back! This is an event that I truly love and I’m really excited to come back for it.
“We had a good run at The Bend; Bayley’s learned a lot in the last couple of meetings so we’ll hit the ground running, and the team’s done a great job in turning the cars around so I’m ready to cut some laps.
“I have no doubt Bathurst will throw everything it can at us again, like it did last year with the rain and the fog. But we’ll be prepared for it, and it was a great race from a fan perspective because of that.
“It was a great learning curve for me at The Bend, running the 80 or so laps I did in the wet; it just helped to get back behind the wheel again, because Bathurst is such a different beast.”
Lowndes will also play a crucial role in taking the pressure off Hall, who is one of eight drivers completing double duty at Bathurst. Hall is one of six Super2 drivers in this weekend's Great Race field.
“This weekend will be my first time doing double duty on a Supercars weekend in Super2 and main game,” Hall said.

"Logistically, I know it’ll be a handful running between the two garages and driving two very mechanically different cars, but it’ll be a challenge that I look forward to.
“Craig knows Bathurst better than anyone else, and I'm excited to lean into that experience and make the most of the laps I'll get."

This weekend's Bathurst 1000 marks 20 years since the death of Australian motorsport legend Peter Brock.
The nine-time King of the Mountain continues to inspire the Supercars.
  • 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000 pays tribute to Peter Brock
  • ‘Brocky’s Helmet’ and Peter’s Pit Lane’ to headline ‘Brock Experience’
  • Activations in Bathurst CBD and at National Motor Racing Museum
The legacy of nine-time Bathurst 1000 winner Peter Brock will be celebrated like never before at the 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000, with a series of fan activations, exhibitions and entertainment experiences marking the 20th anniversary of the legend’s passing.

Headlined by The Brock Experience, the tribute will feature two major attractions, Brocky's Helmet and Peter's Pit Lane, delivering an immersive journey through the life and career of one of Australian motorsport's most revered figures.
The Brock Experience will transform locations across Bathurst into destinations for fans, visitors and the local community, celebrating the enduring impact of Brock's contribution to Australian motorsport.

Brocky's Helmet

Proudly funded by the NSW Government's Open Streets Program, led by Transport for NSW, one of the most visually striking attractions of the 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000 will be Brocky's Helmet, a specially designed domed structure inspired by Peter Brock's iconic racing helmet.
Located on Church Street in the heart of the Bathurst CBD, the free fan experience will become a must-visit destination throughout race week. Brocky's Helmet will be open 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. AEDT across October 5-12.

Inside the immersive installation, fans will find Brock’s 1993 Mobil 1 Holden VP Commodore and his own HDT Holden VL Director road car, offering the public a rare opportunity to step inside a tribute dedicated to the man affectionately known as "The King of the Mountain".

Peter's Pit Lane

Located at the National Motor Racing Museum, outside the final corner of Mount Panorama Circuit, Peter's Pit Lane will showcase an even larger collection of iconic Brock vehicles spanning the many eras of Brock's extraordinary career, including:

  • 1969 Holden HT Monaro 350 (Brock's first Bathurst race car)
  • 1972 Holden Dealer Team Holden LJ Torana GTR XU-1 (Brock's first Bathurst victory)
  • Holden Dealer Team Holden Torana A9X Hatchback (1978 ATCC winner)
  • 1986 HDT Holden VK Commodore (driven by Brock and Allan Moffat)
  • 1987 HDT Holden VL Commodore (Brock's ninth Bathurst victory)
  • 1991 Bathurst Holden VN Commodore Group A (Brock's famous qualifying lap)
  • 1997 HRT Holden VS Commodore (driven by Brock and Mark Skaife)
  • 2004 Bathurst Holden VY Commodore (Brock's final Bathurst, driven with Jason Plato)

Described as "the story of Peter Brock, told through the cars he drove," the exhibition will take fans on a journey from Brock's earliest successes through to his greatest Bathurst triumphs.
Peter's Pit Lane will be open from 9:00am to 5:00pm across all event days of the Repco Bathurst 1000 (October 8-11).
Access to Peter's Pit Lane is complimentary with a valid Repco Bathurst 1000 ticket.

Fittingly, the iconic collection will also take on a series of tribute laps across the weekend, providing fans the unforgettable sight of some of Brock’s most famous race cars lapping the Mountain together.

It is nice to look back on the history of Bathurst and the various races. Allan Moffat was a name synonymous with both Mazda and Ford at Bathurst. This is one of 10 Allan Moffat Specials - five white and blue, five red and orange sold by Mazda dealers in Australia. I believe it was part of the requirement to homologate the RX7 for racing in Australia. The cars were sold with 15-inch Simmons wheels which are fairly popular among Mazda owners.

This is the Bathurst winning RX7 turbo rotary, the driver during the race and that it is road registered. I can imagine breathing in the fumes and the noise from the ported engine😁. The backfiring from the exhaust is amazing. The joys of rotary Mazdas.
