Battle of Long Tan 50th anniversary

A person I know was one of the last groups to be conscripted. On one detail he and others were sent out to collect the remains of Australians killed in a armoured personnel carriers which drove over a land mine. The scene he and others were confronted with drove him to tears. He told me about this many years after returning prior he would not talk about his time over there. He would not go to ANZAC day ceremonies or parades. Interestingly I spoke to him recently and having retired he has taken an interest in his local sub- branch and was one of the organises of their march ANZAC day just past. It has been a long time but he is learning to deal with it and I Say to him and the many other Aussies who were sent overseas to all, wars thank you.
