Battle of the packs

I was really happy with the way our pigs stood up towards the end of 2010\. They started to work as a unit and the results came.

So presumably our starting pack of
Galloway
Farah
Gibbs
Heighington
Ellis
Fulton
Payten
Fifita
Dwyer, will have their work cut out for them again this year. My question is who do you expect to give our blokes the most trouble during the season?

Will it be the Sharks with
Snowden
Aiton
Douglas
Toupu
Gallen
J. Smith
Mannah
Cordoba , thats a tough, skillful and mobile pack.

Will it be the Raiders with
Shillington
Wadell
Lehroyd-Lars
Harrison
Picker
Fensom
Tilse
White
Miller
Thurling, great line up as well - strong fast and powerful.

Will it be the Rabbitohs with
Asotasi
Luke
Stuart
Burgess
Taylor
Lowe
Croker
Ross
Geddes
Pettybourne, Underperformed last year with a lot of injuries.

I think we have most other packs covered and to be honest on our day these three as well. But even so who'll give us the most trouble?

Im happy with our pack & i think we are in the top 4 four forwards.
My top five forward pack is
1.Raiders
2.Dogs
3.Rabbits
4.TIGERS
5.Sharks

With the addition of Eastwood and Tolman the Dogs pack is looking good this year

Yeah and Pritchard….I forgot about the Doggies.

Gonna be some epic forward battles this year!

Souths forward pack will be up and down as usual, they will have some good days with plenty of bad days. Raiders are the pack to beat, a year older and smarter and the OX calling the shots, they will be very strong. The Sharks will be up their too. Really their are no bad packs

Honestly, are these guys even a threat ? Not even mentioning the fact they have average halves & carrying a lot of over rated dead weight on the wings & in the centers, they will never be more than an average just-missed-the-8 team each year. They're entertaining to watch though.
**Asotasi** - Old dude, hasn't rly been that good since leaving the dogs, not impressive & can't crack a NZ jersey.
**Luke** - A+ Player, best player on the team.
**Stuart** - He's still around? Dude is so unnoticeable, old legs Stuart … time to retire !
**Burgess** - Gun player, A+
**Taylor** - Doiii doiii, poor hands... bit of a doofus.
**Lowe** - Reserve grade player, IMO
**Crocker** - Must be hard to tackle when you have a colostomy bag & skip training to watch Millionaire Hot Seat & drink tea & eat biscuits (HE's OLD & WASHED UP)
**Ross** - Hasn't played in how long? Useless, should have been forced retirement.
**Geddes** - AVERAGE @ BEST
**Pettybourne** - Don't know how this guy even gets a crack @ FG, he's below average & doesn't offer anything.

Sharks are weak, should be called the bottom-feeders, don't rate them at all.
**Tupou** USED TO be a good player, now he's unimpressive.
**Gallen** is over-rated & a penalty machine meat head, undeserving of rep honours & just in general seems like a poor player with a poor attitude.
**Snowden** - I don't get the hype nor do I rate him, average player for a below average team.
**Aiton, Douglas, Cordoba** - AVERAGE, AVERAGE, AVERAGE.
**J. Smith** - Good player, I rate him. Probably the worst career move he could have made though.
**Mannah** - He's playing this year? Can't remember seeing him player, shame what happened to him.

As for the CANBERRA RAIDERS, I hate them as a team but there is no denying they have a classy pack.
Shillington & Leyroid-Larhs are gun & I'd have them @ my club in a heartbeat.
Defs going to be full time rep players & the rest of their pack isn't looking too bad either,
with the exception of Alan "Fresh out the retirement home" Tongue.

My thoughts on the WT pack is in the 2011 Squad Review thread, but I think Fifita, Dwyer & Murdoch-Masila have the goods & I love watchin em' play, can't wait to see more from 'em !

x 2 demps, sowfscum pack is all overated hype :blah . i thought that the raiders were close to being the no.1 pack last year. i think the warriors might be a bit of sleeper this year. they have size, speed and a ball player in mateo. cant wait for the kick off

I like the balance in the Tigers pack, they're not the biggest pack, but they're no longer a pack of midgets who would get steamrolled by the big packs.

Other forward packs I like are the Raiders, plenty of size and go forward;
The Bulldogs boast a good pack this year;
Souths are big but can be weak up the middle in defence;
Cronulla have a good pack but don't have the speed or skill outside them to capitalise.

I reckon the Tigers pack can handle any team though provided they are switched on each time they take the field.

The Dogs & The Warrior's packs are looking good.

I think THE TIGERS & THE WARRIORS will be the teams to watch this year.
No bias, of course - Just have a feeling about it.

I will be happy and convinced if our forwards can provide some payback to Manly and Souths, I take the point about Cantebury, it would be great to smash them especially you know who?

Demps you are extremely harsh on the Sharks pack….IMO your way off base.

We shall see though.

In my defense, I'm a serious hater…
& I rly hate the sharks.

I don't rate a player on their roster except new jack j.Smith

Haha yeah fair enough…I do rate Gallen though - especially at club level. His stats are amazing. Add to him two good young up and coming props in Douglas and Snowden and the arrival of Jeremy Smith and they are looking fairly menacing. If they get some early wins and their tales are up so to speak, thats when Toupu will lift his game...dont forget he is an international.

I agree with you about the Raiders though...They are going to be a tough side to crack this year. They choked a bit in their semi against us last year and that should spur them on. Our first hitout against them should be a cracker...

Our pack is a good worker pack but I have an issue with them as there is no one that really scares the opposition.

The closest we get is our Hard hitting Ellis

Big Keith will shake them up this year, I have a feeling. :sunglasses:

Canberra's pack are probably the biggest and most intimidating and they're pretty mobile as well.

I agree with Hbom, I think this year is Keefy's year (and I think Dwyer will step up a notch or two.) I reckon he will finally get a break from all those niggling injuries and he will come out firing. He has so much to offer but soon as he strings a few good games together he gets cut down by some sort of injury.

Great thread.

Canberra in my opinion are far and away the number one pack in the competition. remember this year they add Brett White to the pack (played SOS and for Australia). They will be so hard to beat at home.

I would rate our pack in the top four and if they work together no pack should get the better of them. Still would like Sheens to have 4 forwards on the bench and use them all in the rotation. If we have any injuries in the backline Fulton and Dwyer can slot into the backline.

I would love to see Big Red have an injury free run. Could be anything. State of Origin if he is fit and firing.

Dwyer - Expect him to continue to develope. Would love for him to start in the pack and roam out wider to run over small backs and set up our backs. Needs to time his big hits. Has State of Origin written all over him in th future.

Fifita and BMM - if they can avoid second year syndrome then big things can be expected.
