For all that don't know Benji's court case starts Tuesday and is expected to run for three days
Just want to wish Benji best of luck
Everyone knows you are a champion on and off the field and hope this causes you no grief at all
All Tigers supporters are 100% behind you

And just so that this thread stays on topic and does not de-generate, please heed the following:

All members please note: As this matter is currently before the courts we would ask that all members respect both the integrity of that process and the expressed wish of Benji Marshall and the Wests Tigers that this matter be left to the courts.

As such speculation on the specific events of that night or the offering of legal opinions on the said matter are not appropriate for this forum and will be deleted and may possibly result in the threads being locked. All forum members need to be mindful that while this forum encourages the right for every person to voice their opinion, in legal matters such as this, restraint needs to be shown while Benji Marshall and his legal team prepare their defence case.

Thankyou

I think it's a given we all wish him well, but perhaps we shouldn't be mentioning anything about it whatsoever.

Only takes one comment to start a scrub fire that doesn't need to be.

In a perfect world we wouldnt be mentioning anything negative to bring more crap on the club, but the reality is, this will be in the papers anyway and its a forum. Im pretty confident we will keep this thread as positive as possible.

That was the idea KS To show our support for our superstar
He deserves that in the least for everything he has done for the club and its supporters

Appreciate the no of days set aside is not what is always required, but what are they gonna talk about for three days..?
Its the "victims" version of events,Benji's version, that of a couple of witnesses, plus Benjis character witnesses…?
I wld think all resolved tomorrow morning with a small fine for "ordinary"first time offenders

Really hoping that justice prevails and this court case is dismissed asap. Benji and the team do not need this distraction hanging around and dragging on and on into their finals campaign. All the very best for a positive outcome, Benji 😛ray:

Benji Marshall’s Wests Tigers teammate Todd Payten has thrown his support behind the 26-year-old who is due in court to defend an assault charge tomorrow.

In court on Tuesday for the start of a three-day hearing at which he will defend an assault charge arising from a pre-season incident where the Kiwi captain allegedly hit a man outside a McDonalds in the early hours of a Saturday morning in March.

Payten denied Marshall’s court case would be a distraction as his side heads into the finals but a credit to the way the star play maker has held himself during what could have been a distracting time.

“I don’t think it is because it’s been around for a while,” Payten said of Marshall’s court case.

“That’s for Benji and his legal team. He’s got our full support no matter what happens.”

On the night in question, the five-eighth hosted a Children’s Cancer fundraiser dinner. The incident came just days after Marshall had helped launch the 2011 season as the face of the NRL.

Having become the highest point-scorer in Wests Tigers history, Marshall has guided his side to six consecutive wins and cemented his side in a finals berth

And with his court case for an assault allegation looming, Payten says that makes the achievement all the more special.

“I think he has played some pretty remarkable footy considering not just (the case) but he has a lot of other commitments outside football,” said Payten.

“He’s got his charity, his Channel 9 (television), he does a lot of work off the field which doesn’t get noticed.

"It’s just a testament to him and his character, the way he prepares and what a talented footballer he is.”

Marshall has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm following an investigation into an alleged assault on a 24-year-old male on the corner of Bridge and George Street in Sydney’s CBD which was reported to the Rocks police station in March.

Marshall did not attend the Tigers' recovery session today as he prepares for the court appearance on Tuesday.

I hope David Gallop doesn't stuff our season and suspend Benji if he is found guilty.

There is a precedance with Brett Stewart for allegedly bringing the game into disrepute. Just on the court matter and evidence to be presented, you dont need much proof to be found guilty in these types of offences. At the end of the day, Benji is a better human being than the person who is making the allegations.

Regardless of the result, I have never seen anyone put so much effort into society both off and on the field as what Benji Marshall has done. The man is a true hero, he is loyal, trustworthy and a champion human being in the true meaning of the word. Over the years he has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the sick and underprivillaged people of our society. He is amazing.

He is the Messiah.

I think Gallop would be too gutless to suspend Benji at this time of year if he is found guilty.
No Benji in the finals would cause a lot of outrage as I am sure the majority of people, tigers fans or not,
would be very keen to watch what Benji can do in the big games.

Gallop too gutless ?? He stripped Premierships off the Storm and you think he will be too gutless to punt Benji for a couple of games ?? Me thinks not.

Wouldn't stand Carney down after numerous indiscretions. The stripped premierships were a necessity for penalising rampant cheating of the cap, don't kid yourself into thinking Gallop has a spine.

Agreed 100%…. I'm not worried about any court case as whatever the outcome, Benji is a great ambassordor off the field. As for the NRL, I'm more concerned how Gallop reacts. The prescedence has been set and I cant see Manly Officials leaving this one alone!!!

Thats true. But the Roosters did / have during those periods didn't they?

I think at worst he may get a fine Anything above that would be ludicrous Who cares if Manly whinge When don't they whinge ??

There is a precedance with Brett Stewart for allegedly bringing the game into disrepute.

There is a precedent, but it is not amount of punishment handed out by the NRL, it is more the role they play in these circumstances.

Manly continue to complain about the treatment of Stewart, but the NRL was correct in its decision, because Stewart (and the club) HAD to be punished for being intoxicated. Manly saw it differently and felt it not necessary to punish the player and focused on the sexual assault charges.

Being drunk in a public place and asked to leave a bar is bringing the game into disrepute due to the role of the media in the game. The NRL probably would have been happy if Manly suspended him for 2 games, but the stubborn nature of that club saw no punishment handed out. Enter the NRL who slapped him with 4 weeks and this is the precedent. Clubs are responsible for disciplinary action, but if the action is not sufficient, the NRL will step in and will step in a lot harder because they have been forced to defend the game. If Benji is found guilty, you will find Wests discussing any further club sanctioned punishment with the NRL.

It will be similar to how the Roosters are handling Carney situation. They are consulting with the NRL and they are doing everything they can to satisfy both the image of the game and the well being of the player.
