Benji Marshall involved in late-night incident

So I've just read all 12 pages. And lets be honest here except for the name involved of the player this would not be even a story. I would garrentee worse things happened all over Sydney that night and are nowhere in the paper. Afterall it's a case of: some Aussie callled some Kiwi a few names and said Aussie ended up with fat lip. Embarassed for the guy he went to the cops :roll

I've just read article in Daily Telegraph that in between the CCIA function and MacDonalds states that Benji , his girl friend and a few others went for a "few quiet drinks" . Just wondering if this can be confirmed and wonder if true does this change anything in anyone's mind . Not mine unless he was drunk . Then I would be disappointed .

he's facing potential assault charges and your all calling it nothing.

im against racism as much as the next bloke, but u cant be hitting every bloke that has a crack at u.

he was the face of rugby league. its not like a biff on the field, this is different.

Sometimes its the only thing that will teach these jerks a lesson
You know….its not quite how you put it. Its been reported he tried to ignore it, tried to walk away...walk away from up to 10 antagonists
We all know how proud a man Marshall is....sometimes pride and your personal ethics/standards come first and go stuff the consequences.
Easy to talk about common sense, logic etc in the calm in front of your monitor, but at 3.00am on a Fri nite on George st....common sense and logic is rare

I agree. I also doubt that his charity event ended at 3:30\. I love Benji but he has made a mistake.

For all the peeps stating all it is is a fat lip I'd state that people die from getting punched in the head.

So he's the face of Rugby League which makes him less human does it. From reports he tried to ignore it until he no longer could.

It's clear mtd you've never been racially abused. Having a "crack" at someone is one thing but racial abuse is a completely different thing again and unless you get to understand that you'll probably never understand Benji's reaction. It's about time we all stood up against these morons and say enough is enough.

So it's Benji's fault for exercising his right in a free country to go and get a burger. :wtf

Its not Benji's job to teach them or ours. The guy might also simply have been drunk and said stupid stuff. We've all done it.

Oh pleez…want a band aid for that bleeding heart of yours>?

You dont seem to understand that sometime one can be put into a position they dont necesarally want to be in, and be forced to act in ways they normally wouldnt....its all so easy now in hindsight, youre not there in the heat of the moment

I can safely say I've never racially abused anyone sober or drunk.

Not only are you are criticising Benji your now excusing this buffoons behaviour. That deserves a double :wtf :wtf

 Just trying to lighten the mood.
Im sure much more worse crap happened in town on Fri and last night…stuff we'll never hear about.

I love ink's avatar too.

It is also not about having a bleeding heart. I'm just saying Benji has made a mistake and it would be a lot better if this didn't happen.

And the point is he could have avoided the situation. Saying anything differently is dumb - he was out at 3:30 am in the rocks at Maccas on a Friday night.

I love Benji. I saw him a while back at a Chinese restaurant with a bunch of people and me and my son went up and spoke to him. It must have been annoying but he was extremely nice to both myself and my son. Now I am a fan but there are idiots out there who would love to get in a fight with him at the right time - 3:30 and on the drink at the rocks sounds like a good time to me.

Some of you people need to pull your heads in. Benji was with his Mrs and was clearly accosted by between 8-10 males. He should be applauded for what he did.

In 2007 I was standing in line at an ATM machine and Benji was at the machine withdrawing some cash. The Lebanese gangsters standing in the line in front of me knew it was Benji and one of them started pushing him in the back as Benji was doing his transaction. Small jabs trying to get Benji to explode into a fight . It was so disgraceful. Benji was the upmost professional and handled it superbly. These blokes then surrounded him and looked like they were gonna bash him in the street. Sonny Bill walked out of the club to see what the delay was and all of a sudden it was 5 on 2 instead of 5 on 1 and the gangsters ran away like startled little rabbits.

Weak hero's. It sickens and disgusts me what these people do.

Front Page of Telegraph tommorrow should be huge photo of the person that allegedly racially abused Benji with the headline OUR UGLY CITY. Its time that the powers that be step up and in this case throw the book at the alleged racial slurer..we have racial vilification laws and this is a good time to make an example. I personally find that racial abuse is as bad as being spat on no tolerance and the person that does it eats pavement .Just because someone is high profile doesn't stop them from protecting themselves this is a honor thing no person has to tolerate that type of behaviour and be spoken to in that manner .

No - he should realise that he should try and avoid these situations. He should also not be applauded. A better way to put it if what has been said is true is that he was sorely provoked and the police will drop it quickly.

I feel sorry for him and he is a real good guy but seriously he simply needs to avoid these situations because it puts him and our club in a bad light.

Why didn't you have a go at them ? I would have taken them all on and then given Sonny Bill a hiding just for being there.
