guys get serious, if 8-or 10 blokes of middle eastern appearance supposedly - tanked to the gills with alchohol, or potentially other substances, hurl abuse at you, whilst you are with your girlfriend, just you two - would you go ahead and punch the guy or just walk away and it ignore it. really - be serious. which alternative is common sense and prevails?

You can be forced into taking action, action which isnt always right or legal…..but hey lifes a [automatically edited] (rhymes with witch) and theres scumbags everywhere….ask any cop.
When it all boils down to it though.....it appears he hit someone and you cant do that - NO EXCUSES...according to the law.

Just because he has been charged does not mean the charge is VIABLY PROSECUTABLE at law!!!!

Alot of water to go under the bridge yet ladies & gents!!!!

Lets hope the DPP drops the case.

Maybe he just got upset when he found out that Benji Burger's aren't available at McDonalds?

Yep. Although more correctly, let's hope the DPP decide the case isn't strong enough to expect a reasonable chance of getting a conviction. As Redemption says there are still many stages to go. Someone would have to go to the trouble of puting a brief to take to the DPP which will only happen if the cops think there is a reasonable case. Then the DPP takes a look and says yay or nay. And I've seen the SDPP knock back some pretty solid looking cases!

Loudmouth bullys are my pet hate, They deserve what they get, Remember you can only turn the cheek so many times, Everybody has a breaking point, It sounds to me some of you people have never had to deal with harassment otherwise you might have a different view, Remember Benji had his girl with him and nobody should have to put up with that crap from anyone, I would have done the same thing and im in my fifties, I support Benji 100% Anybody should be able to go out and not be hassled by drunk scum that walk the streets day and night, there is no need for it ,and if that maccas is known for attracting such scum where were the police?

that is something he bought on him self. He has lost it..

he is ready to punish for an offence that he deserved to hand to the guy and mind u its the only one he has had,

but dont worry bout the charity work he does, or the promotional work he does for the NRL or the other good stories in the past he has done…

the NRL takes full advantage of the players like BM, but soon as something goes wrong to a ONE TIME MISTAKE Player they want sit on a fence and wait till the loins have torn them appart and they take the leftovers and prance around...

Gallop should have backed Benji up along the lines

Benji regrets what he did, and he made a terrible mistake but we as a organisation need to support our players against thugs. We will help Benji with legal proceddings over the racial slurs if he wishes to take it further.
blah blah blah

somthing like that but probably better worded

Dont leave the players to hang out to dry when they damn well know they have a good rep in the game, do go things for the game and out side the game and obviously something that isnt his fault

I think youre missing a point or five here

Marshalls managers basically already convicted him, and you suggest the NRL support him?

You need to look at this without bias

The outcome so far is good, dunno why youre so worked up.

Speak englese red…...does that mean you can hit people???

No mate - & not having a go at what you said either!

What you said was right in that the police were compelled to charge him under the alleged circumstances - but the law is not the police - it is the DPP & courts - and a charge does not equal either a conviction - or a viable platform to seek prosecution of the alleged offence!!

Plenty of things to occur before we even know if the charge will be pursued/prosecuted!!

As we all know now - Lui has had many of his 7 charges (including the most serious ones) dropped between court appearances!

This is a minor everyday charge - and the majority do not go to court!!

And ink you are 100% right!! Tauber's grandstanding did his client no favours!!!

Agree 110%!

They are worried about players leaving the game and they release a statement like that? Its a company that Benji has slogged his guts our for, damaged his body, sacrificed his youth and the boss doesn't' at least stand up for him with a bit better wording!?

Sure, say it's wrong, but at least give a bit of understanding to it.

Forgot the fact that most of us might even get a pat on the back from our boss with doing what Benji did.

The bloke who got hit must be laughing right now! I really hope they drag his name through the papers too.

you can't condone assault, no matter way you look at it. otherwise you condone someone killing another human for raping his sister, or killing is cousin.

gallops best to keep his lips sealed and let the courts deal with it, slap benji with a minimum fine and move on.

you are right guys, you cant go hitting people, benji must learn. i dont understand why he came down to their level. that is dissappointing - benji is a legend! maybe this will make him a better player. sometimes i think benji is too cocky - but he's in my team and I support him. we are only human and make mistakes. let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Gallop **MUST** appear impartial…..the NRL, in allowing this to take its course are supporting Marshall.

There seems to be a complete lack of objective thought on this thread. It appears Tauber made up the racist remarks. If so Benji stuffed up even worse than what I initially thought.

Just read that about Tauber - typical player manager stuff. Guess we will only know what happened if and when it hits the courts.

You cannot state it is a mistake or wrong without implying guilt - which is subject to contempt of court/subjudice laws!!!!

Gallop as a solicitor knows that & chose his words carefully!!

All I'm saying is the Nrl should make the decision now. Don't wait for the court. All they are doing is being a sheep and following what the law says.

Just cause he broke the law so did the other guys. Ad that is when the Nrl should back their players. Yes Nrl should say we don't condone what he did and he regrets it. We don't want players take the law into their own hands BUT we will support benji 100% and help him if he wishes to take the racial vilification further.

They support their players as long as it's lining their pockets. Soon as trouble happens they crawl Ito a hole scaared of the media publicity.

Gallop being a solicitor makes it worse.

He should be able to look at the evidence presented to him and make a judgement off his own back. He hasn't got the balls to make a decision off his own back. There are no rules to say he has to wait for the verdict if the courts. If found guilty and te tigers slap a $10000 fine on him the Nrl can then say we are not happy and slap a bigger penalty. Either they need to make the decision now or let it go.

Glad i didn't have to troll through 29 pages to find this…....

When will they release the name of the dog that made the report to police? What a low life piece of crap. You can't call somebody a "black c&%$ and not expect to get [This word has been automatically removed] slapped. What a sook running off to the police station. What happens on the field stays on the field.

T-REXX - they will be in breach of laws that prevent anyone from publicly providing an opinion or trying to sway a criminal case until it has been through the court process! (These are the subjudice laws I referred to - and come with significant penalties!!!)

Gallop is a solicitor - not the presiding Magistrate at the Downing Centre!! So he is unable to determine Benji's guilt or innocence!!

The NRL has never publicly backed a player on criminal charges - be it Laffranchi, Stewart, Cherrington, Matai, Watmough, Carney etc etc etc…. And nor should they!!!

Just being the voice of reason brother!!!

Most of us agree mate!

Are you Happy Tiger's evil twin???

I know what u mean mate but backing a player doesn't always have to be via voice.

If the Nrl just turned around and said we will be taking no action against benji. From the Nrl point it's now over and done with. If the court finds benji guilty so be it.

If the Nrl want to make a decision and punish him now they can.

All they are doing is sitting on the fence. And if the tigers don't impose a penalty big enough the Nrl can jump on the back and make it bigger.

They don't have to try and sway anything. But they CAN make a decision off their own back.

He surely can see what's in front of him and make a judgement based on it. Doesn't have to spell it put. Just make a decision and grow some balls.

Come on mate, there are different levels of assault. If you condone smacking your kids, it doesn't mean you condone murder dude… you are drawing a long bow there.
