Benji Marshall involved in late-night incident

You would have to be a piece of trash to racially abuse anyone and then run to the cops when you deservedly cop a smack in the mouth.

I know it sounds totally justified but still seems weird to me that he retaliated, as other posters have mentioned that he has walked away from this sort of thing many times before. makes me think (and I am only guessing) that being the face of League, and launching the season and doing the charity work and all that he's doing is putting a lot more pressure on him that he may have been letting on. Just a theory. Hope it all gets sorted anyway.

Yep, by the sounds of things I can guess who walked away looking like a bigger wanker.

Good on him if true, I would teach my kids to stand up for themselves don't care who you are someone calls you that. No doubt press will want NRL to string him up. Would surprise me if the guy was paid by the tabloids to do it in the first place.

It's the red in the jerseys i tell ya!
bad luck indeed!

hopefully he didn't lose his balance when he punched him though…

We've heard both sides of the story now, and the Maccas @ the Rocks is a pretty crowded place a 3am, so I'm sure some impartial witnesses will step forward and lend some credibility to either statement.

Fingers crossed the dust settle on this quickly. After reading all the posts in here as well as the official media reports, if it was that serious the Police would already have attended Benji's house and interviewed him. What has most likely happened is that some prawn head and a bunch of his halfwit mates have spotted Benji and decided to wind him up with the racial taunts, seeing that they significantly outnumber him 10 to 2 they wouldn't expect Benji to retaliate so it's probably more a case of 'hurt pride' which sent him running to the Police after Benji gave him a little 'love tap' in reply.

I reckon he'll be sweet after giving his version of events.

Saturday 5 March 2011, Concord Oval- Wests Tigers can confirm that they are aware of an incident involving one of their players, Benji Marshall, in the early hours of this morning.
>
Marshall has briefed the Club fully on all circumstances surrounding the incident and will co-operate fully with any police enquiries that may result from this matter.
>
It would be inappropriate for the Club to make any further comment at this stage.

In all this though poeple saying what was he doing there blah blah blah.

Yeah its a crowded place but its not like he isn't allowed to go there. It was maccas, not a nightclub. He would not even even thought there would be a risk going to McDonalds.

Im guessing it goes something along the lines of:

Benji feels a bit peckish after the function.

Heads to McDonalds for a quick feed

While sitting there he is approached by a couple of men racially abusing him

he ignores but the rest join in.

It keeps ging so he retaliates to get them to shut up.

Benji walks away from it.

racist bloke goes to the cops.

he has nothing to worry about

Can't blame the guy for retaliating he would on a footy pitch and everyone would agree, it's no different if it happens out in the world.

If it was Fifita, the person most angry would be Sheens for going to Maccas and not taking care of his diet.

The most shocking part of this story is the fact Benji was having McDonalds this close to the start of the season.

There will be those that expect him to walk away…there always is, even though they arent in the situation at the heat of the moment.

My son was recently suspended from school for putting a few on an older kids chin at the bus stop after being verbally abused then put in a headlock, despite him not starting anything he still gets punished for "Bringing discredit to the school"

Some will look at Marshall the same way, bringing the game down despite 10 blokes gunning for him, abusing him.
Sucks arse but its the way some sections of our screwed up community thinks.

It's funny how the media spin things, guess there is 2 sides to every story.

If you read the Telegraph it's 1 bloke against Benji and a mate

If you read the Herald it's 8-10 people against Benji

Either way the dust will need to settle and if their is video footage we know it will be leaked at some point. I just hope Benji side of the story is what unfolded and not the other way including the numbers in attendance.

hope he goes on footy show 1 on 1 with phil gould too clear it up….im gonna cop it at work tomorrow but seriously thinks its beat up.....still love ya benji & cant wait for round 1 and hurry up with the new jerseys go tigers....

My admiration for Benji went up even further simply because he did what 99.9% of blokes would have done and stood up for himself. The over sanitised NRL should gets it's head of it's arse and realise that players are entitled to a life without being hassled by morons and that they should be able to defend themselves.
