BENJI MARSHALL NAMED GOOD GUY OF THE MONTH

Kicking goals on and off the field, Benji Marshall has today been named the One Community Good Guy of the Month for August for his commitment to enriching the lives of children battling cancer as well as his special effort in supporting young Wests Tigers fan Lleyton Giles.
Marshall received considerable praise recently for his role supporting five-year-old Lleyton, who has a terminal liver condition, including helping organise for the avid Wests Tigers fan to run the team out for their Round 23 clash against the Panthers.
After the game Marshall also took it upon himself to include Lleyton in the team’s celebration, making any child’s dream come true by lifting Lleyton up on his shoulders and walking him around the field.
“Being able to help out kids like Lleyton is so important to me,” Marshall said.
“That’s why I decided to start up the Benji Marshall Foundation to raise funds to help young kids with cancer.
“I’m pretty excited to receive the Good Guy of the Month award. It’s a really good way to recognise the work so many players are doing in the community each week.”
Marshall’s growing commitment to enriching the lives of children battling cancer has seen Marshall take on a role as the ambassador for the Oncology Children’s Foundation, on top of the time he has recently spent caring for Rozelle Primary School student Alex Rizzo, who is battling brain tumours.
Rugby League’s One Community Good Guy of the Month award acknowledges and recognises the inspiring and widespread commitment of NRL players to the community throughout the season.
As the Good Guy of the Month, Marshall will receive one night’s accommodation including breakfast for two courtesy of NRL sponsor Holiday Inn.
