Benji Marshall re-watched all his 2018 games before deciding his future with Tigers

BENJI Marhsall took extensive measures to ensure he doesn’t let the Tigers down and play one year too many, as he chases the magic 300 game milestone in 2019.

BENJI Marshall pored over footage of himself from the 2018 season at Wests Tigers before deciding to play one more year in the NRL.

Marshall will extend his career into a 17th season in 2019 after re-signing in late August, and will pass the 300-game milestone as a 34-year-old if all goes according to plan.

After landing back at the Tigers last season from the Broncos, Marshall said he thought 2018 would be his last until the club expressed an interest for him to stay on.

“I had to look in the mirror and think realistically, and watch all my games back to see if I could warrant still playing,” he told AAP.

“And I thought I did.

“If I thought I was going to be there and not playing first grade, then I wouldn’t have played.

“We did a season review and I went through all the things I was good at and the things that needed work. And the things I was good at outweighed the things that needed work.

“I felt like I was still learning every day and with all those things together … I’m playing again.”

Marshall is enjoying his quietest off-season in years, having taken to becoming a full-time dad with wife Zoe working in radio.

Speaking at Zambrero’s Plate 4 Plate day initiative with Zoe this week, Marshall said he also factored the NRL lifestyle into his decision as it allowed the pair to juggle their commitments and parenthood.

Front of his mind along with helping the Tigers climb the ladder is also the chance to join the NRL’s 300-club with 11 more appearances - a remarkable feat considering the one-time prodigy played 20 or more games in a season just once in his first six years.

“With all the injuries I had in my career, in the first seven years I had five shoulder reconstructions,” he said.

“To be able to say I’ve played 300 games is just something I could really look back on and be proud of.”

Thats all Benji and Robbie care about.
Get to 300 games even if it means we suck for another year.

Another year of fluff pieces whilst we languish bottom of the ladder. Excellent.

Unfortunatley I think you are right.

Yeah they need to improve 10 % in the off season just to match last season's performances which in Benji's case were mostly underwhelming

It was so obvious that our spine was in shambles before Farah came back yet you want to have a go at his effort. We were no where near the bottom, maybe we had the most number of wins in years in spite of going shocking when Jacob went off injured and before Robbie came back.

To be honest Hap,Benji wasnt our first choice 5/8,he was a stand in for Grub because of his injuries and had to start alot of the games,he certainly helped Brooks this year and Im glad he was there for us this year…
Im not going to knock him and I will wish him the best for next year....

It’s not their fault. We have our good friend Cleary to thank for that.

How many games you got to watch to understand you dont kick on the the 3rd?

I would love to know was it something he did spontaneously or was he following Ivan’s instructions. It would drive me crazy when he would do it.

Well, you and others assured me this year that we would have made the 8 if we had him for the full year. I guess we're a shoe in for top 8 next year?
On the other hand, didnt Souths go well with him in reserves? 12th the previous year to 3rd this year!!!

We CLEARLY went better when Robbie got back.

And without Benji we wouldn't have had a six for most of the year.

To saying they are doing it for the numbers is just ludicrous,

Both these blokes bleed for us how about a little respect back to them

We can’t expect loyalty if we don’t give loyalty. Yes, Benji tired as the season progressed but did his share throughout and was instrumental in our great start. Farah made a big difference to our attack in my opinion.

Of course , we should treat Benji like a God as he had 4 good seasons

Lets forget the 8 crap seasons some of which he himself admitted he didn't have a dig and had a dummy spit when he was benched

Yet when our plodders play like garbage we jump all over them and they become the Anti Christ

Go figure ….. :crazy :unamused:

Loyalty is great but next year we're giving them charity. Both of them have always been bad judges of their own form. Someone should have been smart enough to stop them going around again.

Exactly , not as if Benji played for nothing while he was here , he earned a very good living and has really delivered little since 2005

Farah's form warranted another season , but I'll bet we paid more than we should have for him , not Robbie's fault
